21 Sport MOTORCROSS maltatoday, WEDNESDAY, 26 APRIL 2017 Yamaha Gozo Motocross Championship: Semi-Finals THE Gozo Motorcross Associa- tion is closing down its Cham- pionship as today's semi-finals took place at Ta' Xħajma Track. Races started at 1pm.This event was part of the Gozo Sports Festival organised by the Gozo Sports Board. Mario Cauchi held on fast to first place in all of the three heats, while Robert Spiteri and Etienne Bigeni followed closely. All of the riders put on an in- credible show of motocross rac- ing. Cauchi dominated the day as he acquired maximum points winning first place in three heats. Spiteri followed closely while Bigeni came in third place. Class B was just as challeng- ing as John Attard raced head to head with Keith Bugeja both striving hard to win first place. In fact Attard ended up first while Bugeja came in second. In third place Godfrey Bigeni was only a few points behind. In Class C, Joseph Luke Gauci returned once again in an at- tempt to win over Anthony Fenech who came in second. As usual, Matthew Spiteri showed great determination in his bid to place well. He came in third, while Gauci stayed put in first position. Gozo Motocross Association announces that the Finals will be held on the 14th of May, at Ta' Xhajma, where celebrations will be taking place to crown the new Gozitan MotoX Cham- pion16/17. Another event organised by the Gozo Sports Board in col- laboration with the association is the Gozo Enduro Rally on the 6th of May 2017. All Enduro en- thusiasts are encouraged to reg- ister themselves as early as pos- sible for this event. The third edition of the Xtreme Trials & EnduroCross will be held once again at Kercem Beer & Wine Festival on the 27th of July, in Kercem, while the asso- ciation has a NightCross in the pipeline. Motocross racing will take place after sundown at the track which will be lit with arti- ficial lighting. More detail of the latter event will follow soon. Citadel Marzamemi Weekend Regatta next outing for Royal Malta Yacht Club crews FORMER Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has hailed John Terry as the Premier League's greatest ever defender after the club announced their captain will leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season. The 36-year-old former England internation- al, who made his Chelsea debut in 1998, played more than 700 games for the club and has been their most successful captain. He won the 2012 Champions League, four Pre- mier League titles, five FA Cups, three League Cups and the Europa League with Chelsea. Lampard, who was capped 106 times for Eng- land, is Chelsea's all-time top goalscorer with 211 goals in over 400 appearances in all compe- titions. "The last man standing of an incredible era for @chelseafc," Lampard wrote on his instagram account. "What a pleasure to play with the great- est defender in the @premierleague history. "He led the club both on and off the pitch from the moment he made his debut. "He set stand- ards for everyone, whether it was demanding excellence in training, fighting for every win or respecting how fortunate we were to play for such a great club."
