maltatoday, WEDNESDAY, 21 JUNE 2017 20 Sport SPORTTODAY SAILING FOOTBALL WILFRED SULTANA THIS year's five-day Sette Gi- ugno Cruise to Pozzallo re- tained its traditional cheerful and enjoyable all-family re- laxing sailing break. Since its introduction in 2013 the num- ber of participants gradually increased from 9, 13, 15, 16 to 18 this year. The Continental Malta-Poz- zallo Sette Giugno Regatta or- ganized annually by the Malta Cruising Club (MCC) since 2013 this year saw the intro- duction of Continental Tyres as title sponsors. Participating boats took ap- proximately 8 hours to cross to Pozzallo where they met with varying wind and sea condi- tions. Yet In the last 3 hours, the wind from the North West was a constant 10 Knots and the sea became even more calmer to give the participants a comfortable and pleasant sail all the way to Pozzallo. A now traditional appoint- ment in the Sette Giugno Re- gatta is the 'Sail along the Poz- zallo coast'. where each yacht host two young students from the nautical school Istituto di Istruzione Superiore "Giorgio La Pira" - Pozzallo. This is held with the cooperation of the Lega Navale Italiana Sezione di Pozzallo, with the Section's President Ing. Luigi Tussel- lino acting as Race Officer on the day and also providing a committee and a safety boat. The regatta along the Pozzal- lo coast was very competitive albeit a friendly one. Notwith- standing the light wind condi- tions (about 7 to 8 knots), the boats covered the 5 nautical miles course twice for a to- tal of 10 nautical miles in just over an hour of very pleasant sailing. Apart from the sailing aspect the nearly sixty MCC yachting community were hosted with transport arrangement on two occasions by the Comune di Pozzallo. On one occasion the group visited an agriturismo set-up in Frigintini and assist- ed in the production of ricot- ta, cheeses and home made bread. On the second occa- sion the group attended for the production of the famous Cioccolato di Modica and a sightseeing tour of Modica. Present for the Farewell Fish Night Dinner were also Jo- hann J. Cuschieri, Director of Standard Limited, Malta agents for Continental Tyres, as well as Dot Giovanni Palm- eri and Michele Guarino from Palmeri Pneumatici of Conti- nental Tyres in Catania. Part of the Event's sponsorship was used to subsidize the partici- pants' berthing fees and the cost of the Farewell Dinner. A pleasant Sette Giugno Re- gatta ended with a delightful trip back home - Flat seas with a constant 8 knots of North- West wind and a very favour- able sea current of 1 knot al- most throughout the whole 51 nautical miles between Poz- zallo and Malta. Yes, it was a relatively fast crossing where most boats took 7 hours or less to cross over. Overall it was a very suc- cessful 5 days of activities in Pozzallo enjoyed by all par- ticipating skippers and their crew. (Photo: Patrick Genovese) Spanish prosecutors accuse Mourinho of €3.3 million tax fraud SPANISH prosecutors said on Tuesday they had filed a claim against Man- chester United manager Jose Mour- inho on two counts of tax fraud dating back to when he coached Real Madrid. The Portuguese manager owes Span- ish tax authorities 3.3 million euros (2.91 million pounds), a Madrid pros- ecutor said in a statement, adding it had presented a claim to a local court. Mourinho left Real Madrid in 2013 to manage English club Chelsea for a sec- ond spell before signing with United in 2016. Prosecutors said he had failed to de- clare revenues from his image rights in his Spanish income tax declarations from 2011 and 2012, "with the aim of obtaining illicit profits". They said Mourinho had already set- tled a previous claim relating to his Spanish taxes, which resulted in a pen- alty of 1.15 million euros in 2014. But tax authorities later found that some of the information presented in that set- tlement was incorrect, the prosecutors said. The claims against Mourinho come amid a lengthening list of tax fraud cases involving soccer stars in Spain. Real Madrid player Cristiano Ron- aldo has been called to testify on July 31 in Madrid on allegations that he hid income from tax authorities between 2011 and 2014, according to a report in El Confidencial newspaper on Tuesday. Real Madrid was not immediately available for comment on the allega- tions against Mourihno or Ronaldo's hearing. Gestifute, a Portuguese-based soccer agency which represents Mourinho and Ronaldo, did not immediately re- spond to requests for comment. Another successful Sette Giugno regatta
