maltatoday | WEDNESDAY • 4 JULY 2018 22 SPORTS MOTORSPORTS PHOTOGRAPHY BY MARIO MICALLEF ON Saturday 7th July 2018 Assocjazzjoni Sport Muturi u Karozzi will be holding the last event of the 2017/2018 season before the summer break. The Autocross section will hold the twelfth and last event of the 2017/2018 Na- tional ASMK Pasta Poiatti Championship and the event starts at 6.00pm. This is an- other special event with the participation of Gozo driv- ers, and includes the Vans Demolition Derby starting at 11.00pm. The request to Associa- tion to organise, yet again, the Van Demolition, dates back to the end of 2017. For this event ASMK registered 13 drivers on van vehicles such as Toyota Liteace, Ford Transit, Tata Sierra, Fiat Ducati, Peugeot boxer, Tata Safari, Tata Delcia, Mercedes Vito among others. The As- sociation has already organ- ised two meetings, with the competitors registered and everything in place for next Saturday's Demolition start- ing at 11.00pm while the Autocross starts at 6.00pm. Tickets for both events are available at the door for €5 for adults while accompa- nied children enter for free. A look at the Autocross National Championship standings of the ASMK Pasta Poiatti 2017/2018 National Championship shows that it is still completely unde- cided in the Modified and the Standard classes. In the Modified class we are still seeing the race for the title between Vince Farrugia on his Volkswagen Polo – who currently tops the classifica- tion with 221 points – and Karl Micallef, on a Ford Fi- esta with 208 points. Third place is shared between Jean Paul Grech on his Peugeot 106 and Noel Zammit on his Fiat Punto with 197 points each. In the Standard Class there is still the race for the lead between the Citroen AX of Deane Farrugia and the Peugeot 106 of Nicovich Chircop. Although Farrugia is currently suspended by the Disciplinary Board, he has accumulated enough points and stands a good chance to win the title without compet- ing in this last event. This is adding pressure on Chircop as if he wins this Saturday race final he will be declared Class Winner for the first time. The present classifica- tion shows that Farrguia has 64 points to the 56 points of Chircop. Meanwhile, on Saturday 30th June 2018 the Associa- tion organised the last event of the ASMK National Tri- als Championship sponsored by ASMK and Pasta Poiatti 2017/2018 and we had these results. In Class A Damon Bonello on a Gas Gas motor- cycle won again and was fol- lowed by Rowen Bonello on a Beta. In Class B Isaac Scicluna on a Beta won this class followed by Dion Micallef on a Beta. Third place finisher was Karl Bartolo also on a Beta. In the Junior Class where children compete we saw Julian Sci- cluna win on an electric pow- ered mini-Beta bike designed for young competitors. Following this event, the Association honoured the National Trials Champions of 2017/2018 where again the championship winner in this class is Damon Bonello. The Class B Champion and first time winner is Dion Micallef on a Beta. Micallef also won the Overall of his Class. In the children category called Juniors Class, Julian Scicluna was declared Overall Winner while Jaden Abela finished as Runner Up.
