G1 GAMING maltatoday | SUNDAY • 8 JULY 2018 Gaming Total global iGaming gross winnings are expected to reach €46.2 billion this year, up from €41.9 billion in 2017. Of that, only 62.4% - or €28.8 billion – originates in "white markets", a term used to describe taxed or fully legitimate markets, including Malta, and any other that is in transition. In Europe, white market gross winnings make up 75% of overall iGaming gross winnings. And while these iGaming figures may seem overwhelming, the sector is still only a relatively small – albeit growing – player in global gambling. In fact, iGaming gross winnings represent only 12% of the total gambling gross winnings, which are expected to reach a staggering €385 billion this year. In Europe, the share is closer to 20%. 51% of the global iGaming gross win is generated through betting activity, followed by casino (27%), poker (6%), bingo (4%) and skill (3%). Europe contributes 52% of the global iGaming gross win, with Asia and the Middle East bringing in 27%, North America 12%, Oceania 7%, Latin America and the Caribbean 1.1% and Africa 1%. Total global iGaming gross winnings are expected to top €54 billion in 2020.
