MOTORING M2 maltatoday | SUNDAY • 15 JULY 2018 THE Honda Civic Type R is one of those cars that feel just right from the moment you start the engine. Unquestionably, the new Civic Type R is a huge step on from the previous car, mixing surprising re- finement with genuine interaction and scintillating pace. This car is an iconic model name, reserved for some of Honda's most worthy machines. After a five-year hiatus - skipping a generation in between - Honda has created a wealth of pent-up de- mand among its loyal enthusiasts after the latest machine to wear the iconic red H badge claimed the title of the world's fastest front- driver around the feared and fa- mous Nurburgring circuit. The wait has been long, but has it been worth it? Seven seconds quicker than the outgoing mod- el the 235kW at 6500rpm and 400Nm between 2500-4500rpm direct-injected 2.0-litre VTEC TURBO-powered hatch cracked a 7:43.80 around the 20.83km 'Green Hell'. Since the launch of this model, Honda insisted its numbers make the Civic Type R the fastest-accelerating and quick- est car in its class. Like each and every Civic Type R before it, the body frame of the newbie shares its origins with the regular production model. The 2017 Honda Civic Type R meas- ures 4557mm from bumper to bumper, 2076mm from mirror to mirror, and 1434mm from road to roof-top. There's 2699mm be- tween the axles, 1599mm between the front wheels and 1593mm be- tween the rear wheels. The whole package tips the scale at 1393kg (kerb) and offers a turning circle of 11.8m. Certainly, Honda's new Type R is a joy to steer, hugely capable both on road and on track, and offers all the creature comforts you'd want in a daily driver. Come visit the GasanZammit showroom in Mrieħel and take the opportu- nity to test drive the Honda Civic Type R. Honda Civic Type R is a joy to drive
