The conservation NGO BirdLife Malta organised no less than five sunset boat trips during June and July for the general public to witness this unique spectacle. This annual summer adventure takes place during the breeding season of these secretive seabirds when large numbers of Scopoli's Shearwaters can be seen congregating on the sea after they return from their foraging trips at dusk, before flying to their burrows in the cliffs to take their turn in incubating their egg. Adult shearwaters spend all day at sea, searching for food to bring back to their single chick, and only return to their nest under cover of darkness. Malta is home to 3% of the global population of Scopoli's Shearwater (4,000-5,000 pairs), with around 1,000 pairs nesting at Ta' Cenc alone. Shearwater 'rafting' at dusk A man was seriously injured yesterday morning when part of a parapet wall sur- rounding a roof collapsed and fell on him. An ambulance was im- mediately called and the victim was taken to Mater Dei Hospital for treatment, where he was diagnosed with a number of serious injuries. A police investigation is ongoing. TWO people from Bangla- desh were taken to hospital after two vans crashed in Triq Clarence, Pieta yester- day morning.
