Steve McQueen's Husqvarna 400 bike up for auction THE iconic red Husqvarna 400, nicknamed "Husky" which shot to fame after being ridden by the 'king of cool' cinema legend Ste- ve McQueen, is going up for auc- tion by Bonhams this October 6th in Birmingham, Alabama. McQueen rode the bike in the Academy Award-Nominated 1971 documentary 'On Any Sunday', often hailed as one of the greatest motorcycle docu- mentaries ever produced. The motorcycle also featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated, with a tanned and badass-looking Mc- Queen riding shirtless through the Mojave Desert. The 1970's Husqvarna 400 comes with extensive documen- tation ensuring its authentic- ity, as well as an entry form for the 1970 Saddleback 500 Senior Race, and an uncirculated lucky 1960 penny that was found in- side a clear plastic case tucked away in the cavity of the motor- cycle between the engine and bike frame, commemorating the year the actor's son Chad was born. The sale of the motorbike is expected to smash the records of the privately owned interna- tional auction house and go for a staggering $75,000 to $100,000. The iconic red bike comes from the Swedish company 'Husqvarna', originally founded as a weapons factory in 1689. Proudly unveiling their first motorcycle in 1903, Husqvarna have learnt a thing or two over the course of 110-years of devel- opment. In the 60's and 70's, the early days of off road motorcycling, Husqvarna's name became syn- onymous with winning world titles, Championships and the Baja 1000, attaining 49 victories in total, cementing their name as legends in the sport. Towards the recent years Husqvarna motorcycles continue to break new ground in record sales and growth. With the brand strongly focused on innovation and pro- gression, it's to no surprise their motorcycles set the standard worldwide. Fapi Motors are the official dis- tributors of Husqvarna motor- cycles in Malta. Malta Public Transport joins 'Women in Transport' to encourage the presence of women in the transport sector MALTA Public Transport, the private company operating the route buses, joined the "Wom- en in Transport-EU Platform for Change", a program with the objective to strengthen women's employment and equal opportunities for wom- en and men in the transport sector. This project is being pro- moted by the European Com- mission to promote women's access to the transport sec- tor, stating that with only 22% of women, the trans- port sector is not gender bal- anced. Malta Public Trans- port employs over 1,300 people, out of whom around 150 are women. While there is a low female representa- tion amongst drivers and mechanics, as is seen in the industry worldwide, women make up around one third of the local management team at Malta Public Transport. Malta Public Transport said it was committed to promoting the employment of women in the transport sector and fight against dis- crimination based on gender. By joining this program the company, together with oth- ers, is committed to promot- ing women's work, sharing ideas and good practices in different areas of the trans- port sector, ensuring a bal- ance between work and fami- ly, and other actions that will benefit both men and women and that will contribute to eliminating gender stereo- types. "We would like to at- tract more women to join our company and we have implemented a number of measures in the past three years to achieve this. These include the new collective agreement which supports a better work-life balance, up- graded facilities for employ- ees, as well as programmes for knowledge and skills de- velopment," explained Kon- rad Pulé, General Manager at Malta Public Transport.
