15 maltatoday | WEDNESDAY • 12 SEPTEMBER 2018 LISTINGS WHAT'S ON ENTERTAINMENT SEPTEMBER 21- 23 Malta Military Tattoo The Malta Military Tattoo 2018, will be held on the 21 - 23 September 2018 St George's Square, Valletta. The Malta Military Tattoo is a yearly event which features military bands and other elements which come together to provide a spectacu- lar show for audiences of all ag- es. The music played combines popular tunes with the more classical and these are all per- formed in the context of a Mili- tary March parade to provide a spectacular experience for eve- ryone to enjoy. The music cho- sen appeals to all ages. MUSIC AND NIGHTLIFE 15 SEPTEMBER Rockestra 2018 Celebrating it's 10th year, Rockestra is back on Saturday 15th September at MFCC in Ta' Qali. The event, which is a memorable experience every year, will feature some of Mal- ta's best singers and performers. Tickets are available in stand- ing, seated, and even a limited number of VIP. SEPTEMBER 15- 16 Elrow Malta – Psychedelic Trip Elrow has finally arrived in Malta! The international party which promises craziness and confetti will be held on the is- land on the 15-16 September at UNO, Ta Qali. The event will include the likes of Dubfire, Camelphat, Toni Varga, Andrea Campo, and homegrown Carl Bee. Tickets can be bought on https://www.ticketarena.com. mt/ticket/?event=427874 OCTOBER 3 Cliff Zammit Stevens – 10th Anniversary Concert The hugely-talented and i n t e r n a t i o n a l l y - r e n o w n e d tenor Cliff Zammit Stevens returns to Malta for his larg- est solo concert to-date, in a night of unforgettable music in celebration of the 10th an- niversary of his career. He will be joined by special guest Ira Losco. The concert will be held for one night only on 3 October 2018, in St George's Square in Valletta. The con- cert will also support The Marcy Foundation, which was launched in August this year in honour or Zammit Stevens' mother, who passed away last year. EXHIBITION SEPTEMBER 9-11 Erbatax-il Vers The Strada Stretta Concept; under the artistic direction of Giuseppe Schembri Bonaci, under the auspices of the Val- letta 2018 Foundation presents 'Erbatax-il Vers', a collective multi-media exhibition and performances, under the direc- tion of Georgemario. Erbatax-il Vers is an anthology of 100 po- ems penned by Alfred Grech. The anthology evolved into an initiative which strives for transformation through aspira- tion by inspiration. To do so, a number of artists from various disciplines work together to present multi-sensorial expe- riences, creating a dialogue in various languages for different audiences in specific spaces. The dialogues can be viewed at Splendid in an open space daily between midday and mid- night till 12th September with a performance on Sunday, 9th of September and repeated shows on the 10th and 11th September at 7:30pm. Entrance is free. 5 OCTOBER – NOVEMBER 2 Parallel Existences In his long-awaited new ex- hibition, celebrated photogra- pher Alex Attard creates alter- native identities for historical, centuries-old documents that were severely damaged during the war, and which have since formed part of the Notarial Ar- chives in Valletta. These never seen before, mangled and dis- torted volumes have lain static, buried in boxes, out of sight, for decades – their reason for be- ing, gone. Parallel Existences will be on show at Valletta Con- temporary in Valletta between 5 October and 2 November 2018. THEATRE SEPT 14 -23 Stitching The banned play, Stitch- ing, will finally be showing in Malta, at the Manoel Theatre next September. Anthony Neil- son's masterpiece dealing with loss will be shown after it was banned for many years, hosted by Unifaun Theatre Produc- tion. Tickets for the 18+ play can be found on the Teatru Ma- nuel Website at 20 euro. SEPTEMBER 14- 16 Kazin Barokk Każin Barokk is a Valletta 2018 project and consists of a hybrid performance where visuals and music intertwine, taking extracts from "Le Jouer" by Francois Renard. The per- formance explores if and how Maltese culture is being gam- bled away. This promises to be a soul-searching journey where art, people, robotics, past, pre- sent and future come together to form a 'Baroque pastiche' based on local, contemporary identities. Kazin Barokk will take place at Notre Dame Gate Triq Il - Kottonera, Vittoriosa. SEPTEMBER 28-29 Sfumat Sfumat recounts the story of Alex, in the words and actions of those around him, particu- latly his father Charles, and his daughter Maria. Alex never ap- pears on the play, with the audi- ence forming their own opinion based on what the other char- acters reveal. The production, held at the Salesian Theatre, al- so marks ten years of the Sale- sian Worship Team. OCTOBER 4-14 US/THEM The animated narrative, 'US/ THEM', which sees brutal ter- rorism coinciding with child- like innocence, is coming to Strait Street. On 1 September 2004 – the first day of school, or Russian 'Knowledge Day' – a group of Chechen terrorists stormed into a school in the small town of Beslan, taking 1,200 hostages. The siege lasted three days. Hostages were con- fined within the walls of the school's gymnasium. The mas- sacre left 334 dead, including 186 children. OCTOBER 5-14 The Jew of Malta This October, the MADC and Teatru Manoel are pro- ducing Christopher Marlowe's classic 1590s play The Jew of Malta. Director Chris Gatt describes the play as a "Dark, hilarious and subversive tragic-comedy. The Jew of Malta takes no prisoners as Marlowe cynically dissects a world where politics, greed and the three Mediterranean religions – Catholic, Muslim, and Jewish – clash; skewering all three as he weaves a fast- paced story at once tragic, far- cical, and absurd. FESTIVALS SEPTEMBER 9-16 Malta Pride 2018 'Pride at the Heart of the Mediterranean' will be the overarching theme of this year's Malta Pride. Malta has obtained the top place on IL- GA Europe's Rainbow Map for LGBTQ Equalit y Rights. A week of Pride activities is taking place between the 9th and 16th September with daily events that will revolve around themes of the LBGTQ Culture, includ- ing physical/sexual health, mental health, Drag & Queer Literature. Some great night events are being planned for the weekend which includes Lollipop Pride Part y on the 14th September and S2S Pride Part y on 15th Septem- ber. SEPTEMBER 17 - 24 The Bubble 2018 – A Festival of Life The Bubble returns to Malta this September for a week- long festival of music, art and workshops all celebrating the magical essence of life. The non-profit event will be mark- ing its 8th edition this year, once again aiming to spread positive awareness of the en- vironment, the arts and com- munity in a festive and engag- ing way. And that means 100% of the funds raised from the festival go to environmental and humanitarian causes.
