As the study focuses on improving trawl gear selectivity, the results could potentially lead to a reduction in the discards of the following species: European hake (Merluccius merluccius) and Deep-water rose shrimp (Parapenaues longirostris). In order to conserve fish stocks and better manage the EU fishing fleet, it is essential to effectively manage fisheries related data. This project is in line with Article 39 of Council Regulation (EC) No 508/2014, the Operational Programme for Malta – March 2015 and the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund 2014-2020. Maritime and Fisheries Operational Programme 2014-2020 Part-financed by the European Union European Maritime and Fisheries Fund Co-financing rate: 75% European Union Funds; 25% National Funds Investing in Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture www.mesdc.gov.mt n fisheriesprojects.mesdc@gov.mt fisheriesprojects.mesdc@gov.mt PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARIAT FOR AGRICULTURE, FISHERIES AND ANIMAL RIGHTS PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARIAT FOR EUROPEAN FUNDS AND SOCIAL DIALOGUE PROJECT PART-FINANCED BY THE EUROPEAN UNION EMFF 1.16.1 – A SCIENTIFIC STUDY TO IMPROVE TRAWL GEAR SELECTIVITY The Trawl Gear Selectivity project involves conducting marine surveys and data analysis to research the impact of the different gears utilised, specifically targeting the 40mm square mesh, which the Maltese otter boards trawlers are currently using.
