Save the date for the 28 September in Valletta from 6pm till midnight. is year's theme is Science is Cul- ture, to celebrate the European Year of Cultural Heritage and Valletta's European Capital of Culture. Science shapes all as- pects of culture, from commu- nication to different art forms, health, food and technology. ere will be over 30 activities happening on the night from art installations to exhibitions, science theatre to shadow pup- petry, science film festivals to maths music concerts and street performances. UNTIL OCTOBER 7 Valletta and the Dominicans: A Common Journey Valletta and the Dominicans: a common journey is an exhi- bition narrating how the story of the City of Valletta has of- ten intertwined with that of the Dominican Community in the capital. Heritage Malta and the Parish of St Mary of Porto Salvo and St Dominic have teamed up for an exhi- bition of paintings, prints, manuscript volumes, object d'art, vestments and curious paraphernalia from the na- tional and Parish collections to narrate Valletta's Dominican print. is exhibition will delve into the Dominican mission in the Valletta story, the spiritual comfort it offered to the Val- letta community, especially in times of distress, the contribu- tion of the parish confraterni- ties and the Dominican artistic heritage and personalities. e exhibition is open till 7th Oc- tober at the Dominican Priory in Valletta on a daily basis from 10:00 to 16:00.. On the occa- sion of the festivity of St Domi- nic, opening hours will be ex- tended until 20:00 on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th. Admission is free. MUSIC AND NIGHTLIFE OCTOBER 3 Cliff Zammit Stevens – 10th Anniversary Concert The hugely-talented and i n t e r n a t i o n a l l y-r e n o w n e d tenor Cliff Zammit Stevens returns to Malta for his larg- est solo concert to-date, in a night of unforgettable music in celebration of the 10th an- niversary of his career. He will be joined by special guest Ira Losco. The concert will be held for one night only on 3 October 2018, in St George Square in Valletta. The con- cert will also support The Marcy Foundation, which was launched in August this year in honour or Zammit Stevens' mother, who passed away last year. EXHIBITIONS 5 OCTOBER – NOVEMBER 2 Parallel Existences In his long-awaited new exhibition, celebrated pho- tographer Alex Attard cre- ates alternative identities for historical, centuries-old documents that were severe- ly damaged during the war, and which have since formed part of the Notarial Archives in Valletta. These never seen before, mangled and distort- ed volumes have lain static, buried in boxes, out of sight, for decades – their reason for being, gone. Parallel Exist- ences will be on show at Val- letta Contemporary in Val- letta between 5 October and 2 November 2018. THEATRE SEPTEMBER 28-29 Sfumat Sfumat recounts the story of Alex, in the words and actions of those around him, particu- latly his father Charles, and his daughter Maria. Alex never ap- pears on the play, with the au- dience forming their own opin- ion based on what the other characters reveal. e produc- tion, held at the Salesian ea- tre, also marks ten years of the Salesian Worship Team. OCTOBER 4-14 US/THEM The animated narrative, 'US/ THEM', which sees brutal ter- rorism coinciding with child- like innocence, is coming to Strait Street. On 1 September 2004 – the first day of school, or Russian 'Knowledge Day' – a group of Chechen terrorists stormed into a school in the small town of Beslan, taking 1,200 hostages. e siege last- ed three days. Hostages were confined within the walls of the school's gymnasium. e mas- sacre left 334 dead, including 186 children. OCTOBER 5-14 The Jew of Malta This October, the MADC and Teatru Manoel are producing Christopher Marlowe's classic 1590s play e Jew of Malta. Director Chris Gatt describes the play as a "Dark, hilarious and subversive tragi-comedy. e Jew of Malta takes no pris- oners as Marlowe cynically dissects a world where politics, greed and the three Mediterra- nean religions - Catholic, Mus- lim, and Jewish - clash; skew- ering all three as he weaves a fast-paced story at once tragic, farcical, and absurd." Anthony Neilson's masterpiece deal- ing with loss is being shown after it was banned for many years, hosted by Unifaun eatre Production. The Bubble 2018 – A Festival of Life The Bubble returns to Malta this September for a week-long festival of mu- sic, art and workshops all celebrating the magical es- sence of life. e non-profit event will be marking its 8th edition this year, once again aiming to spread positive awareness of the environ- ment, the arts and commu- nity in a festive and engag- ing way. And that means 100% of the funds raised from the festival go to envi- ronmental and humanitar- ian causes. Malta Military Tattoo 2018 The Malta Military Tattoo 2018 is being held between the 21 - 23 September 2018 in St George Square, Vallet- ta. e Malta Military Tat- too, is a yearly event which features military bands and other elements which come together to provide a spec- tacular show for audiences of all ages. e music played com- bines popular tunes, with the more classical and are all performed in the context of a Military March parade to provide a spectacular experience for everyone to enjoy. e music chosen ap- peals to all ages. Full Moon at Ghar Dalam Visitors are invited to experience a full moon at Ghar Dalam this Sunday. e event will include pres- entations on the various features of interest found in the Wied Dalam area as well as a moonlight tour of the site and cave, followed by light refreshments.
