EXHIBITIONS UNTIL OCTOBER 14 Transformer multisite exhibition Transformer is a multifac- eted, two-year project that builds relationships between the Maltese artistic context and international cultural net- works through a series of bor- der-crossing curatorial and ar- tistic exchanges. Produced by Blitz, Valletta, and Central St Martins, London, the project includes curatorial research, artist residencies, public talks, workshops, an online platform, and a multi-site exhibition in spaces across Malta. The ac- tivities are a collaboration be- tween project partners from Malta, the United Kingdom, Spain, Morocco, and Greece, with the aim of building a net- work which will help develop Artist Run Organisations (AROs) and the contemporary art context in Malta. These never seen before, mangled and distorted volumes have lain static, buried in boxes, out of sight, for decades – their reason for being, gone. Parallel Existences will be on show at Valletta Contemporary in Val- letta between 5 October and 2 November 2018. UNTIL OCTOBER 27 Nisga: Storja Kontemporanja Can the Maltese artist be defined? … is there a prefer- ence for particular topics or themes ? … and does the na- tion come into this definition? A team of curators and crea- tives have come together to present the complex and mul- tifaceted identity of the Mal- tese artist. Twentieth century works of art from public and private collections, including works in traditional media juxtaposed against video art, have been carefully chosen to create meaningful dialogues. Works on display include key pieces, some of which have rarely been on display or are mostly known through books. The event is free at Spazju Kreattiv. THEATRE SEPTEMBER 28-29 Sfumat Sfumat recounts the story of Alex, in the words and actions of those around him, particu- latly his father Charles, and his daughter Maria. Alex nev- er appears on stage, with the audience forming their own opinion based on what the other characters reveal. The production, held at the Sale- sian Theatre, also marks ten years of the Salesian Worship Team. OCTOBER 4-14 US/THEM The animated narrative, 'US/ THEM', which sees brutal ter- rorism coinciding with child- like innocence, is coming to Strait Street. On 1 September 2004 – the first day of school, or Russian 'Knowledge Day' – a group of Chechen terrorists stormed into a school in the small town of Beslan, taking 1,200 hostages. The siege last- ed three days. Hostages were confined within the walls of the school's gymnasium. The massacre left 334 dead, in- cluding 186 children. Notte Bianca is back on October 6 Transformer multisite exhibition is on until October 1
