Then Seamus joined them and two authentic mu- sicians, Sonny and Sam. In spring 2012 Sonny left the band and Bernie took his place. As for their becoming rats, the six pirates say: punk is to music what rats are to animals – dirty and mali- cious, and they exactly play it. The band is combining pub music with hot and dirty punk rock. To spice up their own songs they use Irish pub music and Celtic features, but you can also feel the mood of the pirates' and sailors' world. The band will be performing at Rock Bar Republik on 12 October. OCTOBER 27 Fuzzhoneys 'Love Juice' Album Launch Fuzzhoneys will be releas- ing their debut album 'Love Juice' on the 27th October. EXHIBITIONS SEPTEMBER 8 – OCTOBER 14 Transformer multisite exhibition Transformer is a multifac- eted, two-year project that builds relationships between the Maltese artistic context and international cultural networks through a series of border-crossing curatorial and artistic exchanges. Pro- duced by Blitz, Valletta, and Central St Martins, London, the project includes curatori- al research, artist residencies, public talks, workshops, an online platform, and a mul- ti-site exhibition in spaces across Malta. The activities are a collaboration between project partners from Malta, the United Kingdom, Spain, Morocco, and Greece, with the aim of building a net- work which will help develop Artist Run Organisations (AROs) and the contempo- rary art context in Malta. These never seen before, mangled and distort- ed volumes have lain static, buried in boxes, out of sight, for decades – their reason for being, gone. Parallel Exist- ences will be on show at Val- letta Contemporary in Val- letta between 5 October and 2 November 2018. SEPTEMBER 25 – OCTOBER 27 Nisga: Storja Kontemporanja Can the Maltese artist be defined? … is there a prefer- ence for particular topics or themes ? … and does the na- tion come into this definition? A team of curators and crea- tives have come together to present the complex and mul- tifaceted identity of the Mal- tese artist. Twentieth century works of art from public and private collections, including works in traditional media juxtaposed against video art, have been carefully chosen to create meaningful dialogues. Works on display include key pieces, some of which have rarely been on display or mostly known through books. The event is free at Spazju Kreattiv. THEATRE OCTOBER 5-14 The Jew of Malta This October, the MADC and Teatru Manoel are producing Christopher Marlowe's classic 1590s play The Jew of Malta. Director Chris Gatt describes the play as a "Dark, hilarious and subversive tragic-comedy. The Jew of Malta takes no pris- oners as Marlowe cynically dis- sects a world where politics, greed and the three Mediterra- nean religions - Catholic, Mus- lim, and Jewish - clash; skew- ering all three as he weaves a fast-paced story at once tragic, farcical, and absurd." Heritage Malta and the Parish of St Mary of Porto Salvo and St Dominic have teamed up for an exhibi- tion of paintings, prints, manuscript volumes, object d'art, vestments and curi- ous paraphernalia from the national and Parish collec- tions to narrate Valletta's Dominican print. This ex- hibition will delve into the Dominican mission in the Valletta story, the spiritual comfort it offered to the Valletta community, espe- cially in times of distress, the contribution of the par- ish confraternities and the Dominican artistic heritage and personalities. The exhi- bition is open till 7th Octo- ber at the Dominican Priory in Valletta on a daily basis from 10am to 4pm. On the occasion of the festivity of St Dominic, opening hours will be extended until 8pm on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th. Admission is free.
