MUSIC AND NIGHTLIFE OCTOBER 12 Paddy and the Rats / ROcktober Paddy & The Rats was formed by the singer-songwriter Paddy, Vince and Joey in 2008. Then Seamus joined them and two authentic musicians, Sonny and Sam. In spring 2012 Sonny left the band and Bernie took his place. As for their becom- ing rats, the six pirates say: punk is the same in music as rats among the animals – dirty and malicious. The band is combining pub music with hot and dirty punk rock. To spice up their own songs they use Irish pub music and Celtic fea- tures, but you can also feel the mood of the pirates' and sailors' world. The band will be per- forming at Rock Bar Republik on 12 October. OCTOBER 27 Fuzzhoneys 'Love Juice' Album Launch Fuzzhoneys will be releasing their debut album 'Love Juice' on the 27th October. EXHIBITIONS UNTIL OCTOBER 14 Transformer multisite exhibition Transformer is a multifac- eted, two-year project that builds relationships between the Maltese artistic context and international cultural networks through a series of border-crossing curatorial and artistic exchanges. Produced by Blitz, Valletta, and Central St Martin's, London, the project includes curatorial research, artist residencies, public talks, workshops, an online platform, and a multi-site exhibition in spaces across Malta. The activi- ties are a collaboration between project partners from Malta, the United Kingdom, Spain, Morocco, and Greece, with the aim of building a network which will help develop Artist Run Organisations (AROs) and the contemporary art context in Malta. For more information visit transformermalta.com 5 OCTOBER – NOVEMBER 2 Parallel Existences In his long-awaited new ex- hibition, celebrated photogra- pher Alex Attard creates alter- native identities for historical, centuries-old documents that were severely damaged during the war, and which have since formed part of the Notarial Ar- chives in Valletta. These never seen before, mangled and dis- torted volumes have lain static, buried in boxes, out of sight, for decades – their reason for be- ing, gone. Parallel Existences will be on show at Valletta Con- temporary in Valletta between 5 October and 2 November 2018. SEPTEMBER 25 – OCTOBER 27 Nisga: Storja Kontemporanja Can the Maltese artist be de- fined? … is there a preference for particular topics or themes ? … and does the nation come into this definition? A team of curators and creatives have come together to present the complex and multifaceted identity of the Maltese art- ist. Twentieth century works of art from public and private collections, including works in traditional media juxta- posed against video art, have been carefully chosen to create meaningful dialogues. Works on display include key pieces, some of which have rarely been on display or mostly known through books. The event is free at Spazju Kreattiv. THEATRE OCTOBER 4-14 US/THEM The animated narrative, 'US/ THEM', which sees brutal ter- rorism coinciding with child- like innocence, is coming to Strait Street. On 1 September 2004 – the first day of school, or Russian 'Knowledge Day' – a group of Chechen terrorists stormed into a school in the small town of Beslan, taking 1,200 hostages. The siege lasted three days. Hostages were con- fined within the walls of the school's gymnasium. The mas- sacre left 334 dead, including 186 children. OCTOBER 5-14 The Jew of Malta This October, the MADC and Teatru Manoel are producing Christopher Marlowe's classic 1590s play The Jew of Malta. Director Chris Gatt describes the play as a "Dark, hilarious and subversive tragic-comedy. The Jew of Malta takes no pris- oners as Marlowe cynically dis- sects a world where politics, greed and the three Mediterra- nean religions - Catholic, Mus- lim, and Jewish - clash; skew- ering all three as he weaves a fast-paced story at once tragic, farcical, and absurd." The play Tebut Isfar is on between 13-28 October at the Valletta Campus Theatre The Malta Book Festival 2018 is back between 7-11 November
