maltatoday | SUNDAY • 21 OCTOBER 2018 M5 MOTORING & BOATING EARLIER this year, Express Trailers kicked off a Road Safety campaign to promote the importance of safer roads for everyone and that we all need to share the roads re- sponsibly. "The intrinsic message that the campaign wants to deliver is that whether we are at the helm of our car, whether we are pedestrians, whether we are on a bicycle, a motorbike, a scooter or simply jogging on the road, we are all respon- sible for each other's safety," Franco Azzopardi, Chairman and CEO of Express Trailers, said. "Safety has always been on top of our agenda and we fol- low the most rigorous steps to ensure that all our drivers are safe on the road and in turn, that their driving is safe for others and for the cargo they are entrusted to deliver to destination. Therefore, at Express Trailers, we felt duty- bound to relay our commit- ment to road safety through a campaign which we launched last April." The national campaign, launched in collaboration with Transport Malta and endorsed by the Malta Road Safety Council, started off as a media awareness campaign and then was gradually ex- tended through other ini- tiatives such as featuring the campaign logo on the amber/ orange traffic lights and the start of school visits to pro- mote road safety amongst school children. It was under the Express Road Safety Campaign that Express Trailers confirmed its support to this year's edi- tion of the 11th edition of the Malta Classic held over the past weekend in Mdina. For this event, Express Trailers also lent its orange pick-up van which was used as the event's Safety Van through- out the four days. "We are glad to see this event grow from strength to strength and is enjoying increased international vis- ibility and exposure. More importantly, we also ac- knowledge that the organis- ers of the Malta Classic event have invested a lot to ensure the highest levels of safety on the roads during the four-day event and this was what en- couraged Express Trailers to support this year's edition," Azzopardi said. The next edition of the Ex- press Trailers Żurrieq Half Marathon and 10km Run and Walk will also be hosted un- der the Express Road Safety campaign umbrella. In fact, all the participating athletes' numbers will feature the Ex- press Road Safety Campaign logo with the race number su- perimposed on it. It was this annual half mar- athon that Express Trail- ers has been supporting for the past seven editions that helped the orange pick-up van establish itself as the of- ficial race truck and safety car during such events. Express Trailers is also the sponsor of the Mellieha Ath- letic Club and the Mosta Cy- cling Club through its Ship- LowCost brand. "Runners and cyclists are amongst the most vulner- able on the road and the Road Safety campaign's comitt- ment is to promote safety of the more vulnerable road us- ers. Having said that, every- one remains responsible on the road," Azzopardi said. Express Trailers champions road safety through its support of sport on the road
