Animation is still an emerging industry in Malta, and there are not many institutions that teach this discipline in-depth, focusing on the practice of this medium as art mode and means of ex- pression, while acknowledging its pivotal place in the history of film, and exploring its theoretical relevance. Among the general population, animation is often erroneously considered a genre and a medium that only caters for children. Having been awarded the grant by the Malta Arts Scholar- ship Scheme back in 2015 has enabled me to pursue a career path into animation production, and attempt to explore these misconceptions throughout my study. While reading for a BA Hons in Animation Production from the Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) I have had the opportunity to gain hands-on training in a practice-based environment that encouraged the cross-pollination of ideas. Choosing as my special focus the 2d pipeline, I have sought to learn as much as I could about acting for animation, the role of the producer as well as dip into compositing for feature films and tv-series. Besides all of this, I have been able to work in a highly collaborative manner with my peers and people of various industry skills and back- grounds, as well as consult with various professionals in their field and obtain valuable insight into the world of animation on a global scale. Without the financial support allowed me by the funding body set up by the Malta Ministry for Education, I would have struggled a great deal in paying the tuition fees attached to this prestig- ious course. I would like to thank the Malta Arts Scholarship board for having granted me such an opportunity to kick-start my creative career.
