20 maltatoday | SUNDAY • 28 OCTOBER 2018 COMMERCIAL SsangYong sponsor Fgura football team FAMALCO Group are proud to an- nounce another sponsorship initia- tive with Fgura United football team. SsangYong followed Domino's Malta's lead, where a partnership brokered between the club and the car manu- facturer will see the SsangYong logo printed on both the official gear of the club, as well as their nursery kits. Subsequently, after a meeting be- tween the two parties, the sponsorship was happily confirmed. Employees of the group escorted Fgura United rep- resentatives to the SsangYong show- room in Attard, in which they all happily posed for a picture with the new kit. Kids of the nursery were also invited to view the range of vehicles manufactured by SsangYong, as well as sit in the driver seats and take pic- tures. Both SsangYong and Famalco Group have on numerous occasions sought the opportunity to invest in locals and Maltese associations, keeping Malta's success firmly at the forefront. This philosophy of giving back was en- forced by Fgura United. Following the sponsorship, the football team has taken it upon themselves to raise €9,000 for Puttinu Cares through a 50-hour football marathon, as well as having the Fgura United Capitan present a separate donation to one of their biggest young fans Kane, to as- sist him in medical aid. Famalco group's Co-Founder and Di- rector Hermann Mallia states that "Fa- malco, Domino's and SsangYong are all thrilled to be able to sponsor Fgura United. Sport is a passion of ours, and helping a local team in their efforts gives us great satisfaction". Famalco Group are hoping the spon- sorship will serve to help the club thrive by continually maintaining their ac- complishments in football, whilst also paving the way for younger generations to enjoy the beautiful game. To view the new SsangYong vehi- cles, visit the SsangYong Motors Malta dedicated showroom in Attard which is open from Monday to Friday between 9am and 6pm, and on Saturday between 9am and 1pm. Leading estate agency offers tech funds for Blockchain entrepreneurs IN the wake of the Malta Delta Summit, upcoming Blockchain legislation and the Malta Blockchain Summit, many newspaper columns have been taken up by news of the revolutionary technol- ogy. Like the internet 20 or so years ago, Blockchain innovation promises to be universal, having an impact across all industries and sectors irrespective of the nature of their operations. It is no wonder then that all business stake- holders have their ear to the ground to keep abreast of the fast Blockchain developments. Several professionals may find them- selves daunted by the dawn of Block- chain and what it may mean for their businesses but, let's be honest, we are all a little confused by what Block- chain really is. In simple terms, the 'Blockchain' is a group (thousands or millions) of computers each holding an identical, encrypted record of an event or transaction in a hack-proof ledger that is publically available. Validation of the transaction happens through consensus offered by each computer with that same record. The key feature of Blockchain is that it al- lows transactions to happen without a middleman. In real estate terms, these are excit- ing times. The human element in the real estate world where the consult- ant develops a trustworthy relation- ship with buyer or seller or, as often happens, both, will endure. This is important to all parties, however how transactions are made and how records are extracted, handled and distributed will change with the in- troduction of Blockchain technol- ogy. Smart estate agents are already adapting their business models to ac- cept and facilitate this change in how transactions are carried out. The pre- diction is that buying a property in an established Blockchain jurisdiction will be as simple as adding an item to a shopping cart on a retail website. Charles Darwin famously wrote, "It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is most adaptable to change." Frank Salt Real Estate was established in 1969; today it is the largest, local, independent real estate agency on our islands. The fact that it has survived decades of constant change in all environments be they social, cultural, political, and especially technological is an under- statement. The company considers itself to be one of the estate agents described above: smart enough to ed- ucate itself on the impact Blockchain will make. The company has teamed up with Angel Labs, a US-based investor ac- celerator, to launch Europe's first Blockchain-focused real estate tech fund. Angel Labs and Frank Salt Re- al Estate will join forces to welcome proposals from promising Blockchain entrepreneurs seeking investment to enable the launch of their ventures. Grahame Salt, a director at Frank Salt Real Estate who heads its busi- ness development, commented, "What Malta is doing for Blockchain is outstanding, and we want to be the first to jump on the bandwagon. But we want to do more than that for our country, our business and our indus- try. With our real estate industry tech fund related to Blockchain, in collab- oration with Angel Labs, we will be recognised as enablers of this amaz- ing technology, putting both Malta and our company on the digital world map".
