15 CULTURE maltatoday | SUNDAY • 4 NOVEMBER 2018 PREPARATIONS for the eighth edi- tion of the ŻiguŻajg International Arts Festival for Children and Young People are in full swing as the opening date approaches. This year's festival offers audiences young and old myriad productions celebrating many aspects of the per- formance arts, including theatre, puppetry, music, dance, film, opera, and workshops. With a number of Maltese produc- tions on the roster, and performanc- es from companies from Norway, France, Ireland, Spain, the UK, Italy, Belgium, Sweden, Austria and Cana- da, ŻiguŻajg 2018 truly promises to be an international event. Yet the festival is not merely about the performing arts. This year's pro- gramme includes two projects (Play- Ground and iLand) performed by groups of teens who are have received extensive professional training to reach the performative standards ex- pected at the Festival. Besides, Maltese director and thea- tre practitioner Jean-Marc Cafa', iL- and's director, was mentored by two international directors from the UK and the Netherlands on best practices when producing work for children and young people. The Festival is also working with its partners to implement an eco-friendly strategy and raise awareness with au- diences and in the creative sector on the importance of an environmentally sustainable plan. To this end, ERA, the Environment and Resources Au- thority, is participating in a European project involving the monitoring of air quality by schools. This project will be launched in No- vember, and ŻiguŻajg and ERA will be collaborating to promote this initia- tive and showcase a selection of art- works created by schoolchildren on the theme. Furthermore, as has been the case over the years, ŻiguŻajg would not be possible without the contribution of the 50 or so assistants who help the festival run like clockwork. If anyone is interested to be a part of this year's team, ŻiguŻajg is inviting potential volunteers to contact them. These initiatives strengthen ŻiguŻajg's reputation for being strong in artistic quality while scoring high in European and international engage- ment and community involvement, as recognised by the European Festivals Association (EFFE). ŻiguŻajg is produced by Fondazzjoni Kreattività and will run from 16 to 25 November 2018. A first on the local scene, the album is divided in two CD albums with 12 tracks each. The music video starts with the statement "There are al- ways two sides to every sto- ry", a phrase which also ac- companies the narrative of the double album and which also hints what could follow next. "Hey Now" was directed by Steven Levi Vella and was shot in the south of Malta by Matthew Muscat Drago. It features a colourful and vi- brant palette with Ira Losco in a variety of scenes ac- companying the reggaeton groovy track. A fortune teller seen both in the intro and at the end of the video is also linked to the trailer of the next music vid- eo titled 'Bad Habits' which is scheduled for release very shortly. "The idea of releasing one single from The Sinner and the other from the Saint wasn't actually planned but the idea to create two con- trasting music videos seemed a good video concept with the double album," Ira said. "The first video 'Hey Now' is more of a performance vid- eo where I'm playing a role of someone who's wedding plans didn't go as planned, finding more comfort in her home, taking her love for her plants a bit too seriously; but eventually moving on in her life, looking at ways to leave her hometown."
