The ceremony honoured graduates from Study World Global College Malta's accred- ited Executive MBA and Bach- elor's Degree in Management courses as well as the Univer- sity of Chester MBA, Masters in Marketing Management and more. The majority of students who completed their studies at Global College Malta did this on a part-time basis. Some of the graduates have today found employment in both the pub- lic and private sector. Some areas include Hospitality, Tax and Audit, Gaming, Telecom- munications and Banking to name a few. 90% of students that enrolled with Global Col- lege Malta, benefitted from the Government's Get Qualified Scheme. 57% of students completed their studies at post-graduate level and an MBA awarded by the University of Chester proved to be the most popular course in 2018. Well over half of graduants confirmed they were able to progress in their career paths upon completing their studies. 90% of graduate class benefitted from government's Get Qualified scheme THE Get Ready scheme has been launched during a busi- ness breakfast entitled "Brexit: threats, challenges and oppor- tunities" organised by Malta En- terprise at the Phoenicia Hotel in Floriana and which was at- tended by almost 150 represent- atives of local businesses and stakeholders. The event focused on the op- portunities that may arise from the unfolding scenario, as well as the disruptions and challeng- es that Malta-based businesses may face as a consequence of the final Brexit deal. Opening the event, Malta En- terprise CEO Mario Galea re- ferred to the work being carried out by the Malta-UK Business Promotion Task Force, such as the various one-to-one meetings with British businesses, the in- roads that have been made with the Indian business community in the UK, as well as the events that have been held, including events with the participation of the Prime Minister of Malta. The business breakfast was then addressed by Chris Car- dona, minister for the economy, investment and small busi- nesses, who empahsised the importance of planning for all the possible scenarios, "so as to better protect our citizens and businesses. We are talking about people, communities that can be highly impacted by Brexit, and it is our task as government to take into consideration all possible impli- cations related to it." Dan O'Brien, Chief Economist at the Institute of International & Economic Affairs, then de- livered a keynote presentation during which he explored the possible scenarios and the im- pact that each of them might have on businesses. "The British economy has been more resilient than most ecnonomic forecasts and it will likely continue to adapt well to possible changes," he said. "Free Trade Agreements are very dif- ficult things to agree on, and this is one of the main reasons why the Brexit negotiations have been so long". A panel discussion featured Stefano Mallia, Chairman of the Brexit Advisory Group within the European Economic and So- cial Committee; Martin Hignett, Managing Director, Trelleborg Sealing Solutions Malta; Nus- rat Shah, CFO, Exient; and Ed- ward Chetcuti, Director & Plant Manager, De La Rue Currency & Security Print. MALTESEOWNED EC Eng- lish Language Centres this week announced its intention to acquire Embassy English from Study Group, subject to certain conditions. EC, which has been in opera- tion for over 25 years, is one of the leading schools in the language travel industry and is consistently awarded and acknowledged for its innova- tion and its use of cutting-edge technology in teaching stu- dents the English language. A successful acquisition would mean that all of Embassy English's full immersion pro- grammes in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand would come under the EC ban- ner, thereby making EC one of the largest English language schools in the industry with its expansion into Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Gold Coast, and Auckland. The acquisition would also see EC take over Embassy's Young Learners programmes, Embassy Summer and Embas- sy Academy. This move means that EC will expand its Young Learners' locations in London, as well as Central and Southern England; gain locations in the US in New York State, Mas- sachusetts, and California; and expand in Canada to offer To- ronto. As a result of the acquisi- tion, EC will have an English language school in the most sought-after English-speaking destinations around the world. In discussing the intended acquisition, EC's Executive Chairman Andrew Mangion said that EC had always strived to be at the forefront of our industry and that position has allowed it to keep an eye on the various trends and changes taking place. "I have been an advocate for consolidation in our industry at both the school and agency level for quite some time, and I believe that our intent to purchase Embassy English is the right strategic move at the right time," he said. "We believe that consolida- tion will strengthen our core business and allow us to fur- ther diversify geographically without creating more compe- tition. We are, of course, very excited about our intent to ac- quire Embassy, as it has always been perceived as a strong and reputable brand, and we look forward to continued growth and success in our industry." Study Group CEO, Emma Lancaster, said that the pro- posed transaction was a strong development for the sector. "Study Group will continue to focus on its core business which is unaffected by the potential sale, and EC will in- crease Embassy's offer with its significant, global language teaching expertise," she said. "Through all of this, we re- main steadfastly focused on ensuring we continue to deliver the best possible learning expe- rience for our students." Details of the acquisition are being finalised and the school anticipates closing the deal within the coming weeks. EC was recently awarded the 2018 ST Star Chain School Award, an accolade the school received in 2017, 2016 and 2011, and for which it has been nominated nearly every year since 2007.
