Opera Evening at the MCC, Valletta Maestro Alexei Galea Cavallazzi "FIRE" comes as the 9th solo-exhibition of artist Chris Ebejer, who is back in Go- zo after his last exhibition "Winter light" which was held five years ago in the very same place. Ebejer is showing to the pub- lic a collection of fine sculptures bearing a very innovative fine look synonymous with his distinctive eclectic style. During this exhibition one can observe various developments and techniques employed by the artist resulting in both figurative and expressive impressions. The viewer is invited to relish a taste of diversity reflecting Ebejer's eclectic qualities using and combining several materials and ideas as well his ability in adapting a variety of materials to differ- ent effect. This collection highlights the artist's proficiency and creativity through a range of sculptures made from bronze, terracotta and white ceramics ranging from surreal and imaginary to represent- ative and allegoric. Each and every piece in this collection was artistically modeled then emptied, left to dry slowly, and consequently fired at high temperatures for the terracotta to harden. For ceramics, a thick layer of white glaze was applied in a second- ary process of its own, a particular tech- nique whereby the sculptures are fired a second time at around 1100 degrees centigrade. It is a very delicate and risky procedure in order to ensure uniformity. The finished pieces were then mounted in elegantly styled black frames. A fine collection of bronzes are being presented in this exhibition. Bronze is an alloy of metals molten and cast with the intervention of high temperature and fire using the age old technique called lost wax process. Chris Ebejer's artistic journey immedi- ately gave amazing results. At a tender age he became the first Maltese artist to have a work on permanent public display in the far East, (China). In 2002 he was commissioned by the USA cable net- work to design and build the horse for the film "Helen of Troy". In Malta Ebejer is also well known through several public monuments. His largest work so far is the large fountain located at Montekristo Estates and the remarkable large bronze door for the main building, also at Montekristo Es- tates. Ebejer won several awards and competitions, with his design being cho- sen for the Mater Dei monument at the entrance of the new hospital. In 2008 he was appointed by Arch- bishop to work on the silver statue given to Pope Benedict XVI during his visit to Malta. He is presently involved in other artistic projects. "Fire" should generate a high level of interest particularly to those with an eye for taste and beauty. It also creates an excellent and rewarding opportunity for one to appreciate some very fine sculp- tures in terracotta, ceramics and bronze works, flourishing in character, charm and quality. The exhibition is being organised in collaboration with the Gozo Cultural Centre within the Ministery for Gozo at the historic building of Banca Giuratale, Independence Square (pjazza tat-Tokk). Victoria and is open to the public daily from Monday to Friday between 8am and 3pm. On Saturdays and Sundays, the exhibi- tion is open from 9am to noon. Entrance is free. This exhibition will run from Fri- day to 6 January 2019. For more information visit www. chrisebejer.com or contact 79046540 Sculpture exhibition by Chris Ebejer
