Friday, 7 December 2018 THE name Samson may be associated with the biblical superhero but the Maltese Samson is a man of Ethiopian origins who is best known as an actor, magician, musician and entertainer. Samson has been living in Malta for the last 35 years. He is the proud father of four and a grandfather-to-be very soon, and he has also travelled a lot. Everywhere he goes Samson is only too happy to entertain those around him and in fact he has performed in a number of countries including Cana- da, USA, Germany, Tunisia, France, England and Ethiopia, besides Malta where his great- est contribution was related to the Maltese Tourism Industry and animation. Many tourists still keep in touch with him and some even return purposely to watch his shows while many animators thank him for working close with them and sharing his skills. Before starting to work as animator Samson attended the Manoel Theatre Acad- emy for Dramatic Arts where he got a distinction and from then he never stopped enter- taining people. He attended also courses in graphic and industrial design but he is ba- sically self-taught as an artist. Samson's latest discovery is that of painting especially af- ter he recently found out that his paintings are much ad- mired by those who see them. His current achievement involves a good number of paintings inspired by Maltese and Ethiopian culture. His styles are varied and move from landscape to portrait, realistic, modern etc. There is no genre that he shies away from. A number of his paint- ings are currently being ex- hibited at the Cavalieri Art Hotel in St Julian's till the 3rd of January. Samson and the arts Samson Leguesse ŻURRIEQ was inhabited since the Bronze Age by a relatively large population. Today, this village offers a number of in- teresting sites which date to different periods. On Satur- day, 15th December, Herit- age Malta is inviting the gen- eral public to a guided walk around Żurrieq to discover some of these intriguing loca- tions. This heritage trail will com- mence next to the Xarolla Windmill which was built by Grandmaster Manoel de Vil- hena in 1724. In 1992, this windmill was restored to its original work- ing order. In the year 2000, this building was passed over to be administered by the Żurrieq Local Council and the location now serves also as a cultural centre. Close to this windmill, one also finds several Paleo-Chris- tian tombs which are current- ly being excavated. They contain some architec- tural features that are rarely found in similar tombs on the island. The tour will proceed to the oldest part of the village where particular historical features and buildings will be identified. The walk will go past the parish church, the Armoury, Mattia Preti's residence and various palaces. A coffee break will be served at one of the local band clubs. The walk is at a leisurely pace, however participants are ad- vised to wear comfortable shoes. Meeting place and time: In- dependence monument in Floriana at 08.45hrs. Return to Floriana at ap- proximately 13.00hrs (trans- port included). Tickets: Adults at €12, Sen- iors/Students/Children/Her- itage Malta members at €10.
