The project unfolds in two parts, an exhibition at Blitz, and accompany- ing book of over 200 portraits alongside aesthetic, anthropological and literary essays on aspects of physiognomy, iden- tity and photography, each written in the different languages that have influenced Malta throughout its history – Arabic (Walid Nabhan), English (Alexandra Pace), French (Philippe Parizot), Italian (Virginia Monteforte), Maltese (Leanne Ellul), and Spanish (Antoine Cassar). The exhibition is being held at Blitz, Val- letta. Entrance is free. THEATRE DECEMBER 14 Aranjuez The MPO teams up with Spanish con- ductor Pablo González and renowned flamenco guitarist Cañizares in a con- cert featuring two of the finest exam- ples of Spanish classical music. Turina's Danzas Fantasticas, arguably his most famous work, was originally written for solo piano, but the orchestral version was the first to be performed in public. The work, featuring three movements showcasing different Spanish dance form, was inspired by José Más' novel La Orgía. Aranjuez will be at Teatru Ma- noel on December 14. EXHIBITIONS DECEMBER 27-20 Bahar Zmien (Of Time and the Sea) Peter Sant's debut feature film, BAĦAR ŻMIEN (Of Time And The Sea) is an allegorical film about a stasis and slow change that explores the use- fulness and pain of memory, and attends to the contemporary situation of a life – a life where physicality and memory have eroded to create an ethereal and bi- zarrely harmonious world. In this world, a crippled king whose kingdom has crumbled lives in a remote corner of an island called First in the wake of a bizarre malady of mysterious origin with his two daughters. The King forces his younger daughter to work tire- lessly, building rubble walls in strange megalithic-type configurations in a fe- verish attempt to stave off a return of the virus. Bahar Zmien will be screened at Spazju Kreattiv Cinema on 27, 29 and 30 December at 8.30pm. CHRISTMAS 15 DECEMBER – 16 DECEMBER Magical Christmas Concert 2018 – MCC Valletta Malta's most anticipated Magical Christmas show is back for the 4th consecutive year as the Mediterranean Conference Centre is expected to turn into one energetic concert on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th December 2018. Shine a Light along with Mickey and Minnie together with the Malta Na- tional Children's Choir. The Magi- cal Christmas concert will be held on Saturday 15th (19:30) and Sunday 16th December 2018 (16:00) at the Mediter- ranean Conference Centre, Valletta. At the christening of Princess Aurora, Malefi- cent, the evil Fairy, casts a spell on the baby princess. Eighteen years pass and the spell puts Aurora to sleep. Prince Charming with the help of Dame Nanna Kola and Mud- dles fights Maleficent and her whole army to break the evil spell and rid the land of the evil Fairy once and for all. The panto will be held at the Manoel Theatre from 23 December to 6 January. 23 DECEMBER – 5 JANUARY Jack and the Beanstalk – The Panto All his life young Jack has only ever had one dream - to become a famous knight. Unfortunately he comes from a dirt-poor family that can't even afford to keep up with the ever-increasing rent. One day, his village is attacked by giants who take away the girl he loves - pre- sumably to eat her. Jack needs to pluck up the courage and climb that beanstalk to make the transi- tion from zero to hero, from nobody to somebody, from loser to legend. DECEMBER 19-23 GAWGAW a Panto in the Dark This Christmas you're in for a treat, a treat in the dark that is! Close your eyes and open your ears because between the 19th and the 23rd of December the GawGaw is coming to the Esplora Plan- etarium Hall. This will be Teatru Malta's final pro- duction for 2018, one which they'll be closing off with an audio sensory big bang! This Christmas prepare to see noth- ing and feel and hear everything! Seat- ing is very limited so think ahead and be aware that this production is an hour long and will be staged in complete darkness.
