EXHIBITIONS NOVEMBER 15– DECEMBER 13 Wiccna WIĊĊNA is an intimate and collective compendium of lith-printed photographic portraits; a quiet celebration of the immeasurable variety of faces that inhabit or pass through the Maltese Islands. The project unfolds in two parts, an exhibition at Blitz, and accompanying book of over 200 portraits alongside aesthetic, anthropological and literary essays on aspects of physiognomy, identity and photography, each written in the different languages that have inf luenced Malta throughout its history – Ara- bic (Walid Nabhan), English (Alexandra Pace), French (Philippe Parizot), Italian (Virginia Monteforte), Mal- tese (Leanne Ellul), and Span- ish (Antoine Cassar). The ex- hibition is being held at Blitz, Valletta. Entrance is free. DECEMBER 27-20 Bahar Zmien (Of Time and the Sea) Peter Sant's debut feature film, BAĦAR ŻMIEN (Of Time And The Sea) is an alle- gorical film about a stasis and slow change that explores the usefulness and pain of mem- ory, and attends to the con- temporary situation of a life – a life where physicality and memory have eroded to cre- ate an ethereal and bizarrely harmonious world. In this world, a crippled king whose kingdom has crumbled lives in a remote corner of an is- land called First in the wake of a bizarre malady of mys- terious origin with his two daughters. The King forces his younger daughter to work tirelessly, building rubble walls in strange megalithic- type configurations in a fe- verish attempt to stave off a return of the virus. Bahar Zmien will be screened at Spazju Kreattiv Cinema on 27, 29 and 30 December at 8.30pm.
