EXHIBITIONS DECEMBER 27-20 Bahar Zmien (Of Time and the Sea) Peter Sant's debut feature film, BAĦAR ŻMIEN (Of Time And The Sea) is an alle- gorical film about a stasis and slow change that explores the usefulness and pain of mem- ory, and attends to the con- temporary situation of a life – a life where physicality and memory have eroded to cre- ate an ethereal and bizarrely harmonious world. In this world, a crippled king whose kingdom has crumbled lives in a remote corner of an is- land called First in the wake of a bizarre malady of mys- terious origin with his two daughters. The King forces his younger daughter to work tirelessly, building rubble walls in strange megalithic- type configurations in a fe- verish attempt to stave off a return of the virus. Bahar Zmien will be screened at Spazju Kreattiv Cinema on 27, 29 and 30 December at 8.30pm. UNTIL JANUARY 20 Shifting Context The Shifting Context exhi- bition was curated through an open call for young art- ists by Aġenzija Żgħażagħ. The exhibition seeks to ex- plore the critical role of art in responding to a rapidly changing world, encouraging young artists to appropri- ate the theme of Relocation in their work, taking it else- where into new and unex- pected territories. Creativity entails looking at familiar things from a completely novel perspective and Shift- ing Contexts will encourage and sustain this approach. Shifting Contexts will pro- mote a shared vision of the future of young people in ac- cordance with the National Youth Policy - Towards 2020. DECEMBER 21- JANUARY 27 Vanishing Valletta In 1982 artist photographer David Pisani embarked on a personal project to docu- ment the city of Valletta and the surrounding harbour ar- ea with an emphasis on the socially deprived periphery of Valletta and the infamous red light district of Strait Street which he regularly frequented. What started as a photo essay of the der- elict buildings of the city and the dwindling activity in Strait Street would evolve into an epic documenta- tion of Valletta spanning 29 years. All the photographs in this collection are fine art silver gelatin printed from the original negatives by the photographer.
