Until 14 January, audiences can pick up any tickets to the internationally- acclaimed play for just €15, discount- ed from normal prices of up to €20 per ticket. Winning both the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Play and the Even- ing Standard Award for Best Comedy, Closer by Patrick Marber is a must-see black comedy of sex, honesty and be- trayal. Following the story of Dan, Al- ice, Anna and Larry, the play explores the modern concept of love and, as the characters' four lives intertwine, how they struggle to find intimacy but can't seem to get closer. Opening at London's National Thea- tre in 1997, Closer has since become an international success, having been translated into thirty languages and even being adapted for the big screen, in a film starring Julia Roberts, Jude Law, Natalie Portman and Clive Owen. "As big fans of Patrick Marber's work, we are very happy to have ob- tained the rights to perform this play in Malta," says Masquerade's creative director Anthony Bezzina. "We are de- lighted to be staging Closer as our next production of the season, at our very own intimate theatre space, Blue Box." With Bezzina as director, the Mas- querade production of Patrick Mar- ber's Closer will also feature some of Malta's best performance talent, including Mikhail Basmadjian, Jean- Marc Cafa, Nadia Vella and Alexandra Camilleri Warne. Masquerade Malta's production of Closer by Patrick Marber will be per- formed at Blue Box – M Space, Oscar Zammit Street, Msida on 1, 2, 8, 9, 10 February 2019.
