In-Nannakola u l-Hanfusa u Stejjer Ohra - Anthony Farrugia In-Nannakola u l-Hanfusa (The Ladyird and the Beetle) is a collection of short stories intended for children between eight and 10 years of age. Written in very good and readable Maltese, these stories not only will draw children of that age group closer to books but, thanks to the fi ctitious and natural dialogue used, such as that between an owl and a little rabbit, a ladybird and a beetle, children can not only draw a moral, but may also reach out to poetry, as every story ends with a few rhyming lines. All the characters in this book sound alive and real, and will surely prove highly interesting, besides instilling in the chil- dren themselves the consciousness of certain civic obligations, at the same time teaching them to respect God's tiny creatures and ultimately the essential beauty of nature itself. All That Heaven Allows: A Biography of Rock Hudson - Mark Griffin Rock Hudson's life was blessed and cursed in equal measure — glory as a Hollywood star and pinup, but also the life- long shame of the closet and the agonies of AIDS. His afterlife was just as complicated. Revelations about his life and illness helped force a sea change in public perception of both HIV and LGBT rights. But his life story was mostly relegat- ed to lurid, self-interested memoirs from past lovers and hangers-on. Griffi n sets the balance right in a full, empathetic biography, sparing few details about a movie star who was born (and died) too soon. 'Once Upon a River' - Diane Setterfield In ancient inn on the Thames, the regulars tell each other stories. One night, a stranger bursts in holding the corpse of a young girl; but hours later, the dead girl mysteriously comes back to life. But how? This enchanting book from the author of The Thirteenth Tale is fi lled with folklore, romance, suspense— everything you want from a December read.
