19 LETTERS & EDITORIAL maltatoday | SUNDAY • 6 JANUARY 2019 Mikiel Galea On the work of PN insiders THE former Net TV journalist Keith Micallef, whose work shows aversion for Adrian Delia, in the article 'No discus- sion on Delia case inside PN' (Sunday Times, 9 December), was honest enough to admit that the 2004 Jersey Barclays International Account held in Adrian Delia's name (client account), only surfaced in the summer of 2017 when Adrian Delia appeared with a chance of winning the Nationalist Party leadership contest, as in fact happened. This news item also referred to 'PN insiders' who speaking on condition of anonymity, expressed "disappointment that neither the party's Parliamentary Group nor the Administrative Council, which deals with matters of a discipli- nary nature, had been summoned for a discussion on the matter...." Allow me to ask if these same insid- ers' ever noticed Daphne Caruana Galizia in the Pieta's Nationalist Party headquarters in the run-up to the 2017 Nationalist Party leadership contest. Was she being fed information with the declared aim of wrecking Adrian Delia's leadership hopes, something which she, together with certain PN insiders, did not succeed in doing? Something else might be revealed in this context when the time is ripe. At the end of this article, The Sunday Times published an editorial note which stated that "This newspaper published the fact that Adrian Delia is under in- vestigation after reliably verifying infor- mation it received. It does not take po- litical agendas into consideration when it takes decisions on timing of stories." This might well be so, but what seemed highly suspicious was that this story, which in point of fact was only recycled spin, broke on the very same day the Nationalist Party was organizing a fund-raising marathon. This blew up in the face of whoever tried to wreck the marathon out of envy, hatred and spite with the Nationalist Party having raised €670,632 , an all-time December record. PN insiders' would do well to remember that Daphne Caruana Galizia's attacks against Delia were always unprovoked. Were they instigated by PN insiders? Edward Torpiano, Floriana Union collective Agreement IN your online report 'Union refuses collective agreement to accommodate one employee...', you failed to contact the UHM for its views. It is highly inexact to state that the sectoral agreement was not signed to accommodate a single employee. There are three pending issues the manage- ment agreed upon but when it came to sign, the same management backed out of these issues: the effective date of the agreement, since there is issue of payment of arrears; the adjustment of salaries which was agreed upon by the management which failed to keep its word; and the assimilation of conditions of the employees forming part of the probation section. It was erroneously stated that the In- dustrial Relations Unit within the OPM offered an alternative route to improve the grade and salary of this employee. If this were the case, an acceptable alter- native route was never made known to the officials of the union. The only solution suggested by the OPM was a much lower level which would disturb the Organisation Struc- ture of the probation and also of the parole class. The Ministry for Home Affairs also failed to mention that it suggested the introduction of a person foreign to the Probation Sectoral Agreement who does not form part of the probation and pa- role class and does not even work in the section. Had the discussions had been treated seriously by the ministry the agreement would have been signed by now. The union will thus persist with the industrial action until justice is served with these professional employees, and until the agreement reflects a relative level with other professionals' agree- ments. UHM Voice of the Workers reiterates that signing an agreement to protest the interests of the few cannot be a reason to justify abandoning its members. The union invites the ministry to come up with tangible proposals and bring the matter to a positive conclusion in the best interest of all. Edwin Balzan, Asst. Director UHM Letters & Clarifications
