The performance focuses on the devastating and bleak love story between Macbeth and his wife. It starts off where Shakespeare's version ends: the Macbeths are dead. Freed from their earthly torments, they are however con- demned to endlessly relive the darkest period of their past – a punishment inflicted upon them and which they in turn inflict on each other. They blame one an- other, seeing the other as the real culprit. Thoughts take shape, the characters come to life and relive the dramatic events of which they were once the protagonists. But like memories, these events change over time. What is more: their nightmare is interspersed with moments of love and ten- derness. "Lady Macbeth can be watched at Teatru Salesjan. htt- ps://tsmalta.com/whats-on/ for more details. EXHIBITIONS UNTIL TODAY Bahar zmien (Of Time and the Sea) Peter Sant's debut feature film, BAĦAR ŻMIEN (Of Time And The Sea) is an allegorical film about a stasis and slow change that explores the usefulness and pain of memory, and attends to the contemporary situation of a life – a life where physicality and memory have eroded to create an ethereal and bizarrely har- monious world. In this world, a crippled king whose kingdom has crumbled lives in a remote corner of an island called First in the wake of a bizarre malady of mysterious origin with his two daughters. The King forces his younger daughter to work tirelessly, building rubble walls in strange megalithic-type con- figurations in a feverish attempt to stave off a return of the virus. Bahar Zmien will be at Spazju Kreattiv Cinema on 27, 29 and 30 December at 8:30pm. UNTIL TODAY Shifting Context The Shifting Context exhibi- tion was curated through an open call for young artists by Aġenzija Żgħażagħ. The exhibi- tion seeks to explore the critical role of art in responding to a rap- idly changing world, encourag- ing young artists to appropriate the theme of Relocation in their work, taking it elsewhere into new and unexpected territories. Creativity entails looking at fa- miliar things from a completely novel perspective and Shifting Contexts will encourage and sustain this approach. Shifting Contexts will promote a shared vision of the future of young people in accordance with the National Youth Policy - Towards 2020. UNTIL JANUARY 27 Vanishing Valletta In 1982 artist photographer David Pisani embarked on a personal project to document the city of Valletta and the sur- rounding harbour area with an emphasis on the socially de- prived periphery of Valletta and the infamous red light district of Strait Street which he regularly frequented. What started as a photo essay of the derelict build- ings of the city and the dwin- dling activity in Strait Street would evolve into an epic docu- mentation of Valletta spanning 29 years. All the photographs in this collection are fine art silver gelatin printed from the original negatives by the photographer. UNTIL FEBRUARY 28 The Immortals of a City The Immortals of a City show- cases 51 selected photos from the vast quantity of works. These photos are not objective records of the sculptures, but rather stunning reinventions inspired by lots of reading and reflection on historical documents. The exhibition seeks to convey the influence and charm of Euro- pean public artworks, by repre- senting sculptures of European cities through photography, of- fering visitors an extraordinary taste of glimpses captured in these European cities, and in- viting one to reflect on life and moments of history while pro- gressing toward the future. It has been exhibited in Beijing, Qing- dao, Tianjin and other places in China, meeting with profound appreciation and interest in the historical, cultural and exotic di- versity of the urban carvings. maltatoday | SUNDAY • 20 JANUARY 2019 LISTINGS WHAT'S ON Eden Cinema St Julian's Tel. 23 710400 Johnny English Strikes Again (U) 14:15, 16:20, 18:45, 20:55 Bohemian Rhapsody (12A) 14:30, 18:00, 21:00 The Grinch (U) 11:20, 14:10, 16:15 Robin Hood (12A) 14:00, 16:25, 18:50, 21:15 Wreck It Ralph 2 (U) 10:45, 14:05, 16:30 Creed 2 (12A) 14:30, 17:50, 20:30 Let's Read Together (U) 10:00 Aquaman (2D) 14:15, 17:30, 20:30, 23:30 Spider-man: Into the Spider- verse (U) 10:55, 13:35, 16:05, 18:35, 21:05, 23:40 Mary Poppins Returns (U) 10:25, 13:00, 15:40, 18:20, 21:05, 23:45 Bumblebee (12A) 11:20, 13:50, 18:40, 23:40 Bumblebee (3D) (12A) 16:25, 21:10 Holmes and Watson (12A) 18:30, 20:45 Tulip Fever 18:55, 21:05 The Favourite (15) 13:30, 16:05, 18:30, 21:05, 23:35 Welcome to Marwen (12A) 10:55, 13:35, 16:10, 18:40, 21:10, 23:40 Stan & Ollie (U) 14:05, 16:20, 18:40, 20:50, 23:15 Embassy Cinemas Valletta Tel. 21 227436, 21 245818 Mary Poppins Returns (U) 10:05, 13:00, 15:45, 18:30, 21:15 Aquaman (12A) 14:30, 17:45, 20:45 Creed 2 (12A) 10:25, 14:30, 18:00, 20:50 Bohemian Rhapsody (12A) 14:15, 17:30, 20:30 The Grinch (U) 10:00, 12:10, 14;20, 16:30, 18:40 Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (12A) 21:00 Creed 2 (12A) 10:25, 14:30, 18:00, 21:00 Bumblebee (12A) 10:35, 13:30, 16:00, 18:30, 21:00 Valletta Living History (U) 10:00, 10:45, 11:30, 12:15, 13:00, 13:45 Empire Cinemas Bugibba Tel. 21 581787, 21 581909 Bohemian Rhapsody (12A) 10:15, 15:25, 18:15, 21:10 The Grinch (U) 11:15, 13:45, 16:00 Creed II (12A) 18:30, 21:15 Mary Poppins Returns (U) 11:00, 14:00, 18:15, 21:00 Aquaman 3D (12A) 21:10 Aquaman (12A) 11:00, 14:00, 18:15 Bumblebee (12A) 10:45, 13:35, 16:05, 18:35, 21:05 Tulip Fever (15) 11:05, 13:20, 15:45, 18:30, 20:50 Stan & Ollie (U) 11:05, 13:15, 16:05, 18:35, 20:50 CINEMA
