The performance focuses on the devastating and bleak love story between Macbeth and his wife. It starts off where Shake- speare's version ends: the Mac- beths are dead. Freed from their earthly torments, they are how- ever condemned to endlessly relive the darkest period of their past – a punishment inflicted upon them and which they in turn inflict on each other. They blame one another, seeing the other as the real culprit. Thoughts take shape, the characters come to life and relive the dramatic events of which they were once the pro- tagonists. But like memories, these events change over time. What is more: their nightmare is in- terspersed with moments of love and tenderness. "Lady Macbeth can be watched at Te- atru Salesjan. https://tsmalta. com/whats-on/ for more de- tails. DECEMBER 21- JANUARY 27 Vanishing Valletta In 1982 artist photographer David Pisani embarked on a personal project to document the city of Valletta and the sur- rounding harbour area with an emphasis on the socially de- prived periphery of Valletta and the infamous red light district of Strait Street which he regu- larly frequented. What started as a photo essay of the derelict buildings of the city and the dwindling activity in Strait Street would evolve into an epic documentation of Valletta spanning 29 years. All the photographs in this collection are fine art silver gel- atin printed from the original negatives by the photographer. JANUARY 27 – FEBRUARY 9 Lost in Representation Between the 27th of January and the 9th of February 2019, Fort St Elmo in Valletta is host- ing Lost in Representation: an interactive exhibition by in- ternational artist Menekşe Sa- manci. The Valletta 2018 Foundation and local human rights NGO Kopin (VO/200) are collaborat- ing on this initiative. Lost in Representation at- tempts to shed light on the current refugee crisis and the objectification of migrants, and questions the ways in which migrants are represented, both politically and also aestheti- cally. UNTIL FEBRUARY 28 The Immortals of a City The Immortals of a City showcases 51 selected photos from the vast quantity of works, these photos are not objective records of the sculptures, but rather stunning reinventions inspired by lots of reading and reflection on historical docu- ments. The exhibition seeks to con- vey the influence and charm of European public artworks, by representing sculptures of European cities through pho- tography, offering visitors an extraordinary taste of glimpses captured in these European cit- ies, and inviting one to reflect on life and moments of history while progressing toward the future. It has been exhibited in Bei- jing, Qingdao, Tianjin and other places in China, meeting with profound appreciation and interest in the historical, cul- tural and exotic diversity of the urban carvings, especially by many who have never been to Europe.
