6 TODAY Vanishing Valletta In 1982 artist photographer David Pisani embarked on a personal project to document the city of Valletta and the sur- rounding harbour area with an emphasis on the socially de- prived periphery of Valletta and the infamous red light district of Strait Street which he regularly frequented. What started as a photo essay of the derelict build- ings of the city and the dwin- dling activity in Strait Street would evolve into an epic docu- mentation of Valletta spanning 29 years. All the photographs in this collection are fine art silver gelatin printed from the original negatives by the photographer. All shows start at 8pm and are suitable for mature audiences only. Tickets are available by visiting www. masquerademalta.com FEBRUARY 8-9 Lady Macbeth "Lady Macbeth" is inspired by Shakespeare's timeless tragedy. The performance focuses on the devastating and bleak love story between Macbeth and his wife. It starts off where Shakespeare's version ends: the Macbeths are dead. Freed from their earthly torments, they are however condemned to endlessly relive the darkest period of their past – a punishment inflicted upon them and which they in turn inflict on each other. They blame one another, seeing the other as the real culprit. Thoughts take shape, the characters come to life and relive the dramatic events of which they were once the protagonists. But like memories, these events change over time. What is more: their nightmare is interspersed with moments of love and tenderness. "Lady Macbeth can be watched at Teatru Salesjan. https://tsmalta. com/whats-on/ for more details. UNTIL FEBRUARY 28 The Immortals of a City The Immortals of a City showcases 51 selected pho- tos from the vast quantity of works, these photos are not objective records of the sculptures, but rather stun- ning reinventions inspired by lots of reading and ref lec- tion on historical documents. The exhibition seeks to con- vey the inf luence and charm of European public artworks, by representing sculptures of European cities through photography, offering visi- tors an extraordinary taste of glimpses captured in these European cities, and inviting one to ref lect on life and mo- ments of history while pro- gressing toward the future.
