17 COMMERCIAL maltatoday | WEDNESDAY • 6 FEBRUARY 2019 Career Exploration Week at Zabbar Primary B FOLLOWING the newly imple- mented Learning Outcomes in the Education Department, PSCD teachers Charmaine Cassar and Leonora Azzopardi at Zabbar Primary B organised week-long career educational talks and activities at the school for the Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 pupils which ses- sions complement the PSCD lessons at school. These talks focused on topics such as Oc- cupations in the Community, Gender Equality, Future Jobs and Health and Safety at the Workplace. The Year 6 pupils attended a talk by Zabbar Local Coun- cil Mayor, Marc Vella Bonnici who discussed different careers in various sectors and the im- portance of every job. Through his role as a Mayor, he could address the principles of re- sponsibility, helping each other, listening to others' needs and voluntary work. Elizabeth Saliba, Officer at the Occupational Health and Safety Authority, spoke to the Year 5 and Year 4 pupils about the health and safety issues at the workplace with all occupations. The children could assess the risks found in a specific job site through an interactive, audio- visual presentation. Andre Callus, Executive at the National Commission for Gender Equality, addressed the gender social expectations with the Year 3 pupils and helped them understand that they can achieve whatever they wish as long as they work for it, no matter if they are boys or girls. They discussed stereotypes and challenged what girls and boys are expected to do. Each Year Group closed off the Career Exploration Week with a presentation by Ylenia Vella, Unit Manager at Jobsplus. Ms Vella focused on the skills necessary for all careers, which skills they would have learnt from their childhood hobbies and experiences such as time management, leadership skills, teamwork and punctuality. These talks were prepared as part of the Career Exploration and Planning in the PSCD syl- labus, which syllabus recently introduced Careers as an inte- gral part of the subject, specifi- cally adding the term "Career" in the subject name. The lessons on career at all school levels en- able students to reflect on one's future career goals, to develop a career plan, to understand the advantages and disadvantages of various work alternatives, to understand the importance of employability skills and to un- derstand the rights, duties and responsibilities of employers and employees. THE Faculty for Social Wellbeing, the Fac- ulty of Health Sciences, and YMCA Valletta are organising a conference in memory of Charles Miceli, entitled 'Conference: Home- lessness - the Hidden Scandal' on Friday 8 February at 9:00 at Verdala Palace, Buskett. The housing crisis has become a stark real- ity in these past few years: an issue which is making vulnerable an unprecedented num- ber of people with each passing year. Home- lessness is not however an isolated issue in itself: it creates a domino-effect where those most vulnerable experience other problems such as mental-health issues and food inse- curity. The situation in Malta has in the past few years been brought to the fore and is now being seriously discussed by various lobby groups, organizations and professionals. This collaborative symposium will seek to highlight the prominent socioeconomic is- sues affecting homeless people in Malta, and will include a range of multidisciplinary workshops which will delve into particular subjects in greater detail. The symposium will help in raising even greater awareness on this delicate subject whilst imparting knowl- edge to professionals, volunteers, students and aid workers and inspire collaboration. MAPFRE Malta launches new Incentive Scheme for Tied Insurance Intermediaries IN January 2019, a new MAP- FRE Malta incentive scheme was launched for their net- work of Tied Insurance In- termediaries (TII). The new incentive scheme has been implemented in addition to the 2019 Incentive Frame- work by both MAPFRE Mid- dlesea and MAPFRE MSV Life in order to further rein- force the importance of the TII channel. This scheme will provide an additional layer of incentives available to inter- mediaries who perform well for both companies separately and are able to successfully cross-sell both life and non- life business. The 2019 Incentives Frame- work is a transparent incen- tive system comprised of Premium Targets which are designed to provide TIIs with the opportunity to be reward- ed for their efforts above and beyond what was previously obtainable. It has been communicated by MAPFRE Malta that the 2019 Incentive Scheme will place its focus on sustaining three crucial factors, namely Compliance, Consistency and Promoting Productivity. Due to the Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD), a particular level of importance has been placed towards Compliance as to ensure that these incen- tives do not cause any con- flicts of interest. Furthermore, Consistency and Promoting Productivity will be impera- tive in ensuring transparency and homogeneity across the whole network of TIIs and that TIIs are incentivised to work towards higher levels of performance which yield bet- ter results and even greater rewards, respectively. The ultimate objective of this incentive is to motivate intermediaries to perform at their highest potential across both MAPFRE Middlesea and MAPFRE MSV Life, whilst simultaneously ensuring that higher sales targets as well as optimal levels of service qual- ity and customer satisfaction are achieved. MAPFRE Middlesea p.l.c. (C-5553) is authorised by the Malta Financial Services Au- thority to carry on both Long Term and General Business under the Insurance Business Act, Cap 403 of the Laws of Malta. MAPFRE MSV Life p.l.c. is authorised by the Malta Fi- nancial Services Authority to carry on Long Term Business under the Insurance Business Act, Cap 403 of the Laws of Malta. Both entities are regu- lated by MFSA. Elizabeth Saliba, Officer at the Occupational Health and Safety Authority with Year 4 students Homelessness - the hidden scandal
