Il-Bews bhac-Cirasa – Rise Grech This novel's story circulates around Derek, a young man with a case of rebellion against his father's 'less-than- exemplary' lifestyle. His negative attitude towards his father kept spiraling downhill even more so after his mother's passing. It is in our nature to blame something/someone for an unfortunate happening. This happened to Derek. His anger reached an all-time high and in order to rebel against this, he started acting as if he were his father. Girls were his victims, as they would easily fall for his game. He never believed in love – he even ridiculed it, and this idea caused him to use girls in any way he wanted and get rid of them once he was ready. However, when you fi ght fi re with fi re... it's very easy to get burnt – and that is what happened to Derek in the end. Despite his best friend's (Thomas) advice, Derek could not stop with his rebellious act. Will he manage to get out of the trouble his own stubbornness had caused? What was stopping him from fi nding the girl of his dreams? What calls for justice in his case? What caused Derek to carry out what he did? In the Closet of the Vatican: Power, Homosexuality, Hypocrisy – Federic Martel This brilliant piece of investigative writing is based on four years' authoritative research, including extensive interviews with those in power. The celibacy of priests, the condemnation of the use of contraceptives, the cover up of countless cases of sexual abuse, the resignation of Benedict XVI, misogyny among the clergy, the dramatic fall in Europe of the number of vocations to the priesthood, the plotting against Pope Francis – all these issues are clouded in mystery and secrecy. Chernobyl: History of a Tragedy – Serhii Plokhy On 26 April, 1986 at 1.23am a reactor at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Soviet Ukraine exploded. While the authorities scrambled to understand what was occurring, workers, engineers, fi refi ghters and those living in the area were abandoned to their fate. The blast put the world on the brink of nuclear annihilation, contaminating over half of Europe with radioactive fallout.
