19 COMMERCIAL maltatoday | SUNDAY • 3 MARCH 2019 VIRTU Ferries' newest high- speed vessel, M/V Saint John Paul II, (Hull 089) has arrived in Malta after a 17,780 kilometre, 20-day journey from Tasmania. The vessel's maiden voyage saw her crossing the Indian Ocean, calling at the ports of Fremantle in Western Australia and Colombo in Sri Lanka for refuelling, before passing Soma- lia, at the Eastern tip of Africa, to transit the length of the Red Sea where she called at the last refuelling port of Jeddah before entering the Mediterranean via the Suez Canal. The last leg of the journey, Port Said to Valletta, was covered in 30 hours. The vessel will be de- ployed on the Malta/Sicily route in March 2019. Saint John Paul II was built to conform not only to the ob- ligatory International Maritime Organisation High-Speed Craft Code 2000 but also to The EU Directive 1999/35/EC of the European Maritime Safety Agency of the European Com- mission. The last leg of the journey, Port Said to Valletta, was covered in 30 hours. It gives a glimpse of some of the country's hidden gems, discovering the natural, cultural and historical treasures and introduces the visitors to unique cultural locations. It delves into the growing property, financial and iGaming industries. The publication was officially launched on Wednesday at Capo Crudo Risto Lounge. MTA Chairman Gavin Gulia and Oh My Malta Manag- ing Editor, Saviour Balzan, presented the publication as a must for all visi- tors, to guests affiliated with the tour- ism industry, as well as a number of advertisers and contributors. Over 40,000 copies of this high qual- ity magazine were distributed to nu- merous locations, including hotels and restaurants and the Malta Interna- tional Airport and the Business Class of Air Malta.
