MARCH 15 – 18 Macbeth Teatru Manoel presents an exciting new production of one of Shakespeare's most famous tragedies. Shake- speare's masterpiece tragedy about ambition comes back to Malta in this wonderful production. Victorious from battle, heroic Macbeth allows three witches to feed his in- ner darkness and ambition so that he commits regicide and becomes king. Egged on by his wife, Macbeth com- mits this atrocious act while the king is resting inside his castle. To keep power, Mac- beth becomes blood thirsty, leaving a trail of blood any- where he goes. The opposi- tion finally unites with the English forces and Macbeth is defeated. APRIL 11 – 14 Lord of The Flies Teatru Manoel Youth Thea- tre is proud to present Lord of the Flies by Nobel Prize winner William Golding. The classic novel, a potent allego- ry about the loss of innocence and the decline of civilization, is brought to dramatic life in Nigel Williams' adaptation. A plane crashes on a deserted island. The only survivors are a group of young adults. By day, it's a tropical paradise of sun and sea; but each night, their dreams are inhabited by a terrifying beast. Recom- mend age group: 8+ Music APRIL 12 Gianni Morandi Concert Gianni Morandi will be singing live at the Malta Fairs and Conventions Centre in Tà Qali on April 12. The show will feature more than 40 tracks from Morandi's repertoire forming a playlist that would retrace the funda- mental stages of his 60-year career. They include Occhi di ragazza, Scende la pioggia, La fisarmonica, Non son degno di te, Uno su mille, Dobbiamo fare luce, and Una vita che ti sogno. These last two tracks are part of Morandi's 40th album D'Amore e D'Autore, in which Morandi interprets songs of love.The show starts at 9.30pm. Tickets are available from www.kultura.mt EXHIBITIONS FEBRUARY 1 – MARCH 23 Rosella Biscotti Exhibition Blitz is pleased to announce the opening of a solo show by internationally acclaimed artist Rossella Biscotti (Molfetta, 1978; live in Brus- sels and Berlin). The exhibi- tion portrays the artist's prac- tice with a selection of her key artworks along with a work in progress, her most ambitious to date, originally presented at Van Abbemuseum in Ein- dhoven (2016) and intended to be produced in Malta over the coming year. The show will be accompanied by a free illustrated publication with an essay by the curator, visu- als from the exhibition and more insights about the art- works. A public talk between the curator and the artist will take place on 2 February 2019 at 5:30 pm, followed by drinks at the Blitz Bar. FESTIVALS MARCH 8 – APRIL 7 Gualitana Festival of Music "Gozo's main classical music festival" returns between 8 March and 7 April 2019. This year's edition promises to be an exciting programme of events focusing on the theme "Women in Society". Gauli- tana will include an eclectic mix of events with multifari- ous styles – orchestral, cham- ber, recitals, vocal, featuring international and local artists and ensembles. Held in vari- ous locations around Gozo (with some events in Malta), the festival incorporates multiple creative arts, from literature, to acting, cinema and live-painting, whilst pre- senting multiple genres (jazz, pop, musicals and folk music). It will also host an exhibition by 30 Chinese female artists and shall commemorate the bi-centenary since the birth of Clara Schumann. MARCH 27- 29 Campus Book Festival The National Book Coun- cil and Għaqda tal-Malti – Università are proud to pre- sent the sixth edition of the Campus Book Festival (FKK), which will be held on 27, 28 and 29 March, kicking off daily at 9 am with back-to- back activities planned until 4 pm. On Friday the activities will continue until late in the evening. The purpose of the festival is to promote litera- ture across the board while, at the same time, giving pub- lishers and book distributors a space in which they can sell and promote their publica- tions with a mature audience, such as university students. The Festival is open to all, free of charge. Lectures MARCH 14 Fortress Malta: An Island Under Siege (1940-1942) Celebrated UK author and broadcaster James Holland will tell the island's incredible story of wartime defiance, to help Save Valletta's Skyline. In his lecture entitled For- tress Malta: An Island Under Siege (1940-1942), popular author, historian and BBC broadcaster James Holland will share the human drama experienced as Malta became the most bombed place in the world and the islanders were literally starving. The lecture will be held on Thursday 14 March in the Ballroom at the Phoenicia Hotel in Valletta. The talk will be followed by a short meet-and-greet with guests, and an optional VIP dinner. Advance booking is es- sential. 27 MARCH ROTOT - Mediterranean Routes through Intercultural Dialogue This seminar organised by the cultural association Inizjamed aims to address how different local realities can be brought together to ref lect a wider, more com- mon Mediterranean reality, or set of realities, that inter- relate with one another. The aspect of the Phoenicians being a sort of mythical, leg- endary archetype of common Mediterranean roots that however still inspires many cultural operators in seeking exchange through intercul- tural dialogue, as opposed to neocolonial and neolib- eral economic measures, will provide us with a framework to which all of our speakers can relate to.The seminar will take place on Wednes- day 27 March 2019 at 6pm at the Malta Society of Arts, Palazzo De La Salle, Republic Street, Valletta, and is free of charge.
