maltatoday | WEDNESDAY • 27 MARCH 2019 20 MOTOCROSS SPORTS THE Gozo Motorcross Association or- ganised its quarter finals of the cham- pionship 2018/19 at Ta' Xħajma Track. 22 riders including a number of Mal- tese riders, participated in the event, watched by numerous fans who came to support their favourite rider. Riders of Class A dominated the day as its riders put on the most incred- ible competitive show. Top rider of the Gozitan Championship classification and Champion of 2018, Steve Xuereb, together with David Dimech and Car- melo Borg raced against Maltese current Champion of ASMK, Kyle Camilleri. All riders fought hard to place in the first three positions in all of the three heats. Camilleri won this category fol- lowed closely by Xuereb in second place. Dimech came in third place. Class B was just as challenging with lead rider Glenn Vella, winning first place with 60 points followed by Mal- tese rider Daniel Caruana. Robert Spi- teri came in third place. Meanwhile Mario Cauchi, Gozitan champion of 2016-17, returned after a very long break. He participated in class B and came in fourth place. Meanwhile in Class C, Daniel Portelli did very well for himself. He achieved maximum points. Jorn Stellini followed in second place while William Sant came in third followed very closely by Lewis Debono. Stellini leads Class C. David Mercieca held on to his first place as he leads Class D. He was fol- lowed by 15-year-old Isaac Bartolo. An- thony Fenech did quite well and placed third. Besides the main sponsor Yamaha by Gasan Zammit, Sunday's races were al- so supported by Ravenol Lubricant Oil at Galea General Services of Xewkija Gozo. At the end, the president of the association, Frank Xuereb, awarded tro- phies to the winners together with Rav- enol products. Gozo Motocross Association an- nounced that the semi-finals of the Yamaha Gozo Motocross Champion- ship 2018/19 will take place on Sunday 14 April 2019 at Ta' Xhajma Track. Rac- es start at 13:00. For the first time in Gozo, the associa- tion is proud to present the first edition of the Motocross Master Classes. These intensive classes, which will be spread over this coming weekend, will take place at the track and will be headed by popular European Champions Dimitri Asmanov and Nenad Maxims. The association also announces that several activities that will include moto- cross, enduro, trials and also autocross will be taking place in the near future.
