6 maltatoday | WEDNESDAY • 27 MARCH 2019 NEWS CAREER OPPORTUNITY Lands Authority is seeking applications from interested persons to fill the following position: Senior Technical Officer - ICT Jobplus Permit Number – 212/2019 MAIN JOB PURPOSE Responsible to oversee the day to day running of the Computers, Telephone Network Infrastructure and Network Services and to ensure that they function smoothly. The job holder will be supervising the available resources (human, material and systems) in the diagnosing, maintaining and repairing, digital equipment and/ or any ICT related hardware pertaining to Lands Authority related parties and reporting status and analysis. QUALIFICATIONS A recognised Diploma in ICT studies equivalent to MQF Level 5 from a recognised institution and a good level of general education Knowledge of ICT related applications and experience is a must. EXPERIENCE Demonstrated knowledge of Windows software and desktop products. Demonstrated knowledge of setting up remote access for users. Demonstrated ability to administer a 500+ node network. Demonstrated ability to support networked printers and photocopiers. Demonstrated working knowledge of current communications devices and protocols, server and desktop technologies. Have a basic knowledge on configuring and administering Network Routers and Switches. Basic background in most of the areas within this job especially TCP/IP, sub-netting and VLANs in a routed networks environment. Experience on TCP/IP and related diagnostic tools are a must. SKILLS Knowledgeable about the operations/business of the Lands Authority. WE ARE RECRUITING www.landsauthority.org.mt DAVID HUDSON JUST a week after the €32.4 million co- caine haul, Customs officials have found 51.6kg of cocaine hidden in reefer con- tainers at the Malta Freeport Terminal. In a statement, the Customs Officials said they valued this haul at €5.8 million. During routine screening of containers arriving to and transitting through Malta, seven containers with a high risk route were selected for scanning by the Con- tainer Monitoring Unit. Following pre- liminary scans, two reefer container had irregularities which pointed to possible narcotics hidden in the reefers, and sub- sequent physical searches confirmed this. The first reefer container was found to be carrying 20 packets of cocaine, weigh- ing 24kgs and worth approximately €2.7 million euro; and the second reefer container was found to be carrying 23 packets of cocaine, weighing 27.6kgs and worth €3.1 million. In both cases the narcotics were found hidden behind the reefer's compressor panelling. Both reefer containers were carrying fruit and transited through Malta from South America en-route to Albania. The case was handed over to the Police Anti Drug Squad, who are conducting the investigations. The duty magistrate is leading the inquiry assisted by a team of experts from the Police Forensics Unit. The haul of cocaine is valued at €5.8 million and distributed from South America in containers carrying fruit 51.6kg of cocaine discovered in two containers
