The classic novel, a potent allegory about the loss of innocence and the decline of civilization, is brought to dramatic life in Nigel Williams' adaptation. A plane crashes on a deserted island. The only survi- vors are a group of young adults. By day, it's a tropical paradise of sun and sea; but each night, their dreams are inhabited by a terrifying beast. Recommend age group: 8+ APRIL 9 -14 Alla Mnezza The story-line is known by al- most everyone. A seemingly vir- tuous man became very popular in his time as some recounted that he performed miracles. He was deemed subversive and dangerous by the political/reli- gious elite and was condemned to death. He is reported to have said that he would conquer death. His words and deeds still resonate today. But DWAL ĠODDA theatre group tackles the plot of this story from differ- ent perspectives in their yearly two-act production in combina- tion with the traditional Good Friday procession at Gharghur, which is held on Palm Sunday – this year, 14th April. DWAL ĠODDA will give two perfor- mances of " Alla Mneżża' " at Spazju Teatrali on Tuesday 9th and Wednesday10th at 7.30pm. Entrance is free. On 14th April, Palm Sunday, a 'park and ride' shuttle system will be operat- ing with the collaboration of the Gharghur Local Council, from the near the old Trade Fair grounds in Naxxar, to Gharghur and back, between 4.30pm and 10.30pm. APRIL 26-28 Glitter Punch A critically-acclaimed play about first love that has already taken the British theatre world by storm will soon have its Malta debut at the Blue Box Theatre. Glitter Punch by Lucy Burke is a gritty, coming-of-age drama, which tells the story of the two young protagonists Molly and John as they meet, start a troubled relationship, and embark on a journey of forbidden love that will change their lives forever. For its Malta debut, Glitter Punch is pro- duced by local theatre company Masquerade Malta and will fea- ture up-and-coming performers Gianni Selvaggi and Monique Dimech Genuis for three shows only, at the Blue Box Theatre inside M Space in Msida from 26 to 28 April 2019. More infor- mation may be found online at www.masquerademalta.com Music APRIL 12 Gianni Morandi Concert Gianni Morandi will be sing- ing live at the Malta Fairs and Conventions Centre in Tà Qali on April 12. The show will fea- ture more than 40 tracks from Morandi's repertoire forming a playlist that would retrace the fundamental stages of his 60-year career. They include Occhi di ragazza, Scende la pioggia, La fisarmonica, Non son degno di te, Uno su mille, Dobbiamo fare luce, and Una vita che ti sogno. These last two tracks are part of Mo- randi's 40th album D'Amore e D'Autore, in which Morandi interprets songs of love.The show starts at 9.30pm. JUNE 8 An evening with Bruce Dickinson NNG Promotions are proud to announce a special one-man speaking show by IRON MAID- EN singer, BRUCE DICKIN- SON in Malta on Saturday June 8 at the Sir Temi Zammit Hall, University Of Malta, Tal-Qroqq, Msida. Split into two parts, the first half of the show sees Bruce taking a humorous, often satiri- cal look back at his colourful, roller-coaster life. Tick- ets are available from www. kultura.mt Exhibitions APRIL 26 – MAY 26 Julinu's Radioactive Ravioli Award-winning artist- illustrator Julian Mallia, also known as Julinu, will soon present his first solo painting exhibition that promises to of- fer alternative visual interpre- tations of familiar notions and elements from pop culture. The exhibition, named Julinu's Radioactive Ravioli, features a collection of 17 realistically- executed oil paintings, which utilise the artist's signature graphic wit, atmospheric sur- realism and meticulously-ex- ecuted visual ideas to present a different take on reality. Curated by Justine Balzan Demajo and Francois Zammit, Julinu's Radioactive Ravioli is supported by a Malta Arts Fund Project Support Grant from Arts Council Malta and by Vee Gee Bee Art, San Gwann. It is targeted at any- one aged 16 and above and will be exhibited at Spazju Kreat- tiv in Valletta from Friday 26 April until Sunday 26 May, with entrance free of charge. Culture APRIL 14 Open Day at St Elmo An Open Day organised by Heritage Malta on Sunday, 14th April, will offer the public free access and guided tours to Fort St Elmo and the National War Museum, reenactments, activities for children, talks, and war-themed snacks. Originally intended as a war machine, today Fort St Elmo serves as an impressive his- torical military building with unobstructed panoramic views of the Grand Harbour and the surrounding towns and villages. The fort also hosts the National War Museum which houses a superb collection of artefacts that go back to pre- historic times.
