17 EVENTS maltatoday | WEDNESDAY • 10 APRIL 2019 AN open day organised by Heritage Malta this Sunday will offer the public free ac- cess and guided tours to Fort St Elmo and the National War Museum, re-enactments, ac- tivities for children, talks, and war-themed snacks. Originally intended as a war machine, today Fort St Elmo serves as an impressive his- torical military building with unobstructed panoramic views of the Grand Harbour and the surrounding towns and villages. The fort also hosts the National War Mu- seum which houses a superb collection of artefacts that go back to prehistoric times. Guided tours with the cu- rator of Fort St Elmo will be held at 9.15am (in Maltese) and 1pm (in English). Parti- pants are to meet at the Pi- azza D'Armi. Guided tours with the cura- tor of the National War Mu- seum will be held at 11am (in English) and 2.45pm (in Maltese). These tours too will leave from Piazza D'Armi. The following activities are also being organised: Re-enactments at Pi- azza D'Armi: 9.30am - Le- gio X, 10.30am – Show of Arms, 11.30am - In Guardia, 12.30pm – Show of Arms, 1.30pm - Historical Re-Enact- ment Group of Malta, 2.30pm – Battlefront. Childrens' activity 'Make your own armour' (for ages 5+): 10.15am and 2.15pm. Location - Sacristy, next to Church of St. Anne. Children are to be accompanied by an adult at all times. Talk by the George Cross Island Association 'The Siege of 1940-1942' at 3.30pm in the Conference Room. Exhibition: 'Rations and food' at the Church of St. Anne. Food stalls including war- themed food at Casemates Area. Fort St Elmmo and the Na- tional War Museum will be open from 9am to 5pm, with last admission at 4.30pm. This year the competition is entitled 'Sustainably Yours' and focuses on the importance of living sustainably. Pho- tographers will be able to highlight challenges and opportunities from their perspective, according to three main as- pects relates to sustainable living: food, energy and mobility. The winners in each category will be awarded a cash prize of €1000, while €500 is on offer for both a Public Choice Award and a Youth Prize. The latter is awarded to participants aged between 18 and 24. All finalists will be put forward for the Public Choice Award and may also fea- ture in future digital and print material from the EEA and its European partners. As an environmental regulator, ERA encourages participation in such com- petitions. In fact, the Authority's mis- sion is to safeguard the environment for a sustainable quality of life. ERA be- lieves in artistic expression as one way in which the public may be made aware of environmental issues and in turn en- couraged to take ownership in address- ing them.
