11.04.19 5 NEWS MALTA International Airport was once again a high-flyer among air- ports of its size. Landing in Skytrax's list of top 10 airports worldwide, each hosting between five and 10 million passengers annually, Malta Interna- tional Airport was the only EU airport to feature in this category. Malta International Airport, which currently holds a four-star rating awarded by Skytrax in 2016, ranked among the best airports in its size cat- egory alongside other top performers worldwide including Adelaide Airport (Australia), Christchurch Internation- al Airport (New Zealand), Koltsovo International Airport (Russia), and Keflavík International Airport (Ice- land). An internationally renowned air- line and airport audit organisation, Skytrax announced the winners of its World Airport Awards 2019 at the end of March based on air travellers' votes on service and product key per- formance indicators, such as check- in and security processes and retail options, for 550 airports across the globe. "This is another vote of confidence from our passengers in our airport and the team that drives it towards reaching its ambitious goals, heart- ening us to keep working on turning brief airport journeys into memorable passenger experiences in line with our vision," said Malta International Air- port CEO Alan Borg, whilst thanking the airport team and stakeholders for their sterling work throughout the year. The team's efforts in delivering an excellent service and the airport's high-quality facilities were not only noticed by Skytrax. Towards the beginning of March, Malta International Airport had an- nounced that it had clinched Airports Council International's 'Best Airport in Europe' title in its size category. The overall winner of Skytrax's World Airport Awards 2019 was Sin- gapore Changi Airport, which has held on to the prestigious 'World Best Airport' title for seven unrivalled years since 2013. GO recently collaborated with MCAST on a co-lecturing sem- inar for first-year BA Business Enterprise Degree students within the Institute of Business Management and Commerce (IBMC). This seminar was held on the initiative of course lecturer Thomas J. Dimech as part of a series of co-lectures that bring the industry closer to educa- tion, with the aim that students get both the academic and the industrial perspective in prac- tice, in their fields of study. This co-lecture, the third in its series, focused on Manag- ing Quality at the place of work and following an introduction on the topic by MCAST Qual- ity Assurance Director Pierre Dalmas and Quality Manager Frank Gatt, the lecture was de- livered by Arthur Azzopardi, Chief Officer GO Business at GO. "At GO, we are very proud to have had this opportunity to collaborate with MCAST to en- hance the students' educational experience. Our contribution will hopefully contribute to- wards further development of education, students and the future workforce," said Arthur Azzopardi. The topics discussed included quality management systems, the culture of quality, quali- ty measuring tools, practical implementation of quality at functional level, methods of in- spection and quality at source, perception and quality gaps. All speakers highlighted the importance to remain close to the industry and the relevance of vocational education, em- phasising that sharing industry experience with IBMC students is only way to prepare students adequately for the place of work. The students had the oppor- tunity to understand the rele- vance of these subjects within GO which has been an estab- lished communications servic- es provider in the business to business segment and also the business to consumer segment.
