17 EVENTS maltatoday | WEDNESDAY • 1 MAY 2019 THE sixth edition of the Val- letta Green Festival opens in Valletta on Thursday 9 May at 9.30am and will run till 8pm on Sunday 12 May. This festival is being organised by the newly- launched Valletta Cultural Agency (VCA) and is part of the Valletta 2018 Cultural Pro- gramme legacy. As in previous editions, the Festival will transform one of the largest urban open spaces in Valletta, St George's Square, this time with a colourful floral in- stallation containing a message that raises awareness about the dangers of single-use plastic to our planet. The Infiorata this year uses flowers to depict the beauty of our land and sea, and waste col- lected from around the island to depict the harsh reality of the pollution we create and live with day by day. Various stands disseminating information by NGOs, Was- teServ Malta Ltd., the Environ- mental Landscaping Consorti- um (ELC), the Environment and Resources Authority (ERA) and Ambjent Malta will be present throughout the duration of the Festival. On Saturday 11 May, local band SterjoTipi will be per- forming; starting from Freedom Square at 10am and travelling down Republic Street to finish in style at St George's Square with a lively performance. A legacy of the Valletta 2018 Foundation, the Valletta Cultur- al Agency (VCA) is tasked with sustaining and strengthening the capital city's vibrant cultural life through the creation of an annu- al programme of creative events developed in collaboration with artists and other Public Cultural Organisations. The Valletta Green Festival is a Valletta Cultural Agency pro- ject, in collaboration with the Ministry for Sustainable Devel- opment, the Environment and Resources Authority (ERA), the Environmental Landscap- ing Consortium (ELC), Amb- jent Malta, WasteServ Malta Ltd, and several environmental NGOs. L-Ghanja tal-Poplu song festival to be held on 31 August This year's festival hopes to raise awareness on the dangers of single-use plastic to our planet ALL the four exclusive guided tours at Ta' Kor- din III Temples which were organized by Herit- age Malta for those students who succeeded to get their first Heritage Malta Passport Visa were fully booked last Sunday, 28 April. The students, each with two accompanying adults, had the opportunity to a free visit of the Neolithic Temples of Kordin III in Paola to learn about this intriguing site. Being the sole survivor among two other similar sites which were located in the area but were demolished in the past to make way for development, the site of Kordin III Temples has considerable significance. These temples are also interesting for their particular features, such as the stone-paved forecourt which is the best preserved in all the Maltese Islands' megalithic temples, and the massive multiple quern which was discovered lying across the entrance to the left apse. The students were also invited to handle typical original artefacts which are usually dis- covered during an archaeological excavation. The site of Kordin III Temples is not usually open to the public and can be visited by ap- pointment. Due to the high demand of students who wished to attend to this exclusive activity, Heritage Malta will be organising a similar event for those students who have collected their first Heritage Malta Passport Visa. This special visa is issued to those students who collect ten stamps on their visits to ten different Heritage Malta sites and museums.
