02.05.19 TRENDSETTERS LIAM CARTER What inspired you to start Exhale? It all started after we got into the JAYE Company Programme. In the fi rst few meetings, we knew we wanted to tackle a problem, which ultimately led to the issue of drink-driving. e whole inspiration of Exhale was to raise awareness on this problem and to try and reduce it. What was your biggest challenge to date? Our biggest challenge was getting the most effi - cient portable breathalyser since we wanted our cus- tomers to be able to attach it as a keychain while be- ing able to keep re-use it. is is why we got various samples to test out, as well as carried out a market re- search questionnaire in or- der to get to know our po- tential customers' opinion. What's the biggest business-related lesson you've learned so far? Setting up a business is not as easy as it seems, apart from coming up with a good business plan, sell- ing the product itself is tough and requires a lot of hard work. We achieved this through an aggressive marketing campaign and also setting up stands on diff erent occasions to sell them ourselves. Do you see your product line expanding in the near future? We are currently consid- ering whether to continue our business after the com- petition is over, and hope- fully improving our com- pany. However, nothing has been decided as yet. What advice would you give to aspiring teen entrepreneurs? Our advice would be to take risks, work hard and don't give up when faced with challenges. It is very easy to let diffi cult situa- tions or even self-doubt put you down and stop you from achieving your goals. is is why we believe that team-work is fundamental, in order to help each other overcome these hard times. In a bid to eradicate the common tendency of drink driving in Malta, a group of students forming part of the JAYE Company Programme have come up with a new portable keychain breathalyser device. BUSINESS TODAY quizzed the group on their inspirations, motivations and business experience to date Meet the student entrepreneurs aiming to curb drink driving
