Get your board UpToSpeed with EY on 14 June EXPRESS Trailers recently completed the delivery of around 40km of ductile iron pipes to Malta on behalf of Electrosteel Castings (UK) Ltd. The purple-coloured pipes ranging from 80mm to 300mm in diameter will be de- ployed in a project launched last year by the Water Servic- es Corporation at Ta' Barkat limits of Xgħajra, for the pro- vision of a viable, high-quality alternative to groundwater extraction. The project, co-financed through EU Cohesion funds, will see the expansion of the current distribution system of treated sewage network for irrigation by farmers in Malta the South and Gozo. In fact, it is estimated that the 40km of pipes being used will be cover- ing almost 60% of the second class water distribution sys- tem in the Maltese Islands. Electrosteel UK has been working with Express Trailers for around eight years. Since then, Express Trailers have continuously delivered simi- lar potable pipe consignments including during the rebuild- ing of the Coast Road, where they even unloaded the pipes at various contractors on the trenching site. Several times, when Water Services Corporation needed urgent supplies of either pipes or accessories, Express Trail- ers collected these by trailer from the UK and delivered them on site in less than a week, stated a representative of Electrosteel Castings Ltd in Malta. The ductile iron pipes were manufactured by Electrosteel Castings Ltd of India that has been delivering such pipes for use in the distribution of potable water since 2001. To date, they have delivered over 375km of pipes, with all or- ders obtained after competi- tive tenders against other sup- pliers. The Water Services Cor- poration has worked on the concept of providing a viable, high-quality alternative to groundwater abstraction for many years. The fruit of all the research and in-house design and construction by WSC's technical experts is already helping Malta's environment and water sustainability. Starbucks will bring custom- ers in Malta a wide range of coffee beverages, from classic favourites like the café latte to bold innovations such as nitro- gen-infused cold brew – each expertly and passionately hand- crafted by baristas who have been entrusted with delivering an unrivalled customer experi- ence. Each beverage will be made with the world's highest qual- ity Arabica coffee, all of which is verified as 99% ethically sourced through its Coffee and Farmer Equity (C.A.F.E.) Prac- tices programme, developed in partnership with Conservation International. One of the baristas told Mal- taToday each coffee cup can be traced back to the farmer who grew the produce used, and the process it underwent to make it consumable. Starbucks Vice-President of Operations Robert Lynch said the coffeehouse wanted its first Malta store to reflect the Seat- tle company's vibrant culture, and the relaxed romance of the Mediterranean. "Malta's culture and proximity to the sea reflects Seattle's, and the company will be feeling right at home operating on the island," Lynch said. "We look forward to sharing with our Maltese customers our deep pride and enthusiasm for coffee, brewed and served by a world-class team of passionate, knowledgeable baristas." With over 30,000 stores op- erating worldwide, Starbucks Malta general manager Mal- colm Saliba said customers in Malta will have a bespoke envi- ronment. "While the experience will be consistent with the values and store atmosphere that Star- bucks is known for globally, what customers in Malta will see is an environment created bespoke for them, reflecting the beauty of the island's dynamic culture." The company is also striv- ing to be an industry leader in sustainability: Saliba said stores will offer 25% discounts to cus- tomers who bring in reusable mugs, while offering plastic cutlery only on request. The company has also pledged to eliminate plastic straws from all its stores around the globe by 2020. At a special press preview in Valletta, Lynch said that what made Starbucks unique is how it values its customers. "It's not only about the coffee or setting, but the relationship between the baristas and our custom- ers." The Starbucks brand is brought to Malta by DB Group, that currently hold the execu- tive licence for operating and developing the brand on the is- land. "DB Group plans to grow its family of Starbucks partners as they develop new stores in the months and years ahead," the hotels group said in a state- ment. "DB Group shares Starbucks' commitment to doing good, working closely with the Malta Community Chest Fund Foun- dation. Recently, the DB Group also launched the DB Group Foundation, which raises funds for a variety of local and nation- al charity efforts." Starbucks makes Valletta its first Malta home
