maltatoday | WEDNESDAY • 5 JUNE 2019 21 SPORTS POWERLIFTING THE Malta Powerlifting As- sociation organised its annual Single Lifts event last Sunday. The top three male lifters in the Squat were Wayne Grego- raci (1st), Shawn Farrugia (2nd) and Sean Galea (3rd). Grego- raci lifted an impressive 225kg at a bodyweight of 91.8kg. This was not only the heaviest lift of the day, but also the best Squat in terms of points. Farrugia placed second with a solid 180kg Squat at 68.5kg bodyweight. He got 128.952 points for this lift, which was just 1.233 behind 1st place. Galea managed to Squat 187.5kg at 79kg bodyweight which got him 3rd place, with a difference of 26.629 points from 4th place. Kristen Borg achieved first place in the Squat among the female competitors with a 90kg squat at a bodyweight of 52.9kg. The second place was secured by Nicole Borg who squatted 80kg at a bodyweight of 54.8kg. In the Bench Press actegory, Shawn Farrugia won top hon- ours with a solid 140kg. Far- rugia made a valiant attempt at 147.5kg but missed by only a few inches. Josef Spiteri fin- ished second with a 175kg Bench Press, which was the heaviest press of the day. This was done at a bodyweight of 97.8kg. George Bonanno showed a lot of determina- tion and came 3rd Place in the bench with a 137.5kg solid press at a bodyweight of 83.5kg. In the females' section, Pame- la Psaila got first place, fol- lowed by Kristen Borg. Psaila pressed an impressive 75kg at a bodyweight of 61.5kg, while Borg benched 60kg as her third attempt, and 62.5kg as her fourthattempt. Charles Degiorgio once again won the overalls in the Deadlift. He lifted 240kg at a light body- weight of 69.4kg with a total of 10 points sepearating him from second place. Shawn Farrugia deadlifted a grindy 222.5kg which assured him the sec- ond spot. Alessandro Valastro deadlifted the heaviest weight of the day - 285kg - beltless. Pamela Psaila won the fe- males' Deadlift with a very im- pressive 160kg as her third at- tempt, and also a 165kg deadlift for her fourth attempt. Kristen Borg deadlifted 112.5kg which secured her second place, and Nicole Borg came in third with a 112.5kg deadlift as her third attempt, and 117.5kg deadlift as her fourthattempt.
