RYANAIR has officially launched a sub-
sidiary airline called Malta Air, which
will operate out of Malta using a f leet
of six aircraft and which will increase
to 10 over the next three years.
The first aircraft was registered last
night, with the airline aiming to carry
five million passengers within the first
five years.
Addressing a press conference at Au-
berge de Castille this afternoon, Ry-
anair CEO Michael O'Leary said it
was a proud and auspicious day for the
group, adding that the investment in
the new airline represented an invest-
ment in Malta.
He described the negotiations that
led up to the agreement as "the tough-
est and most difficult" negotiations he
was a part of in the last 13 years, add-
ing that the group would be investing
up to $1 billion in Malta through the
venture.

Malta Air launched
Puli calls Marlene Farrugia
'viper' over anti-PN chant
MATTHEW VELLA
NO love lost between the PN's erstwhile
'coalition' partner Marlene Farrugia
and an enraged Clyde Puli.
The PN secretary-general has called
out Marlene Farrugia over a viral video
of the Democratic Party MP celebrat-
ing during the St Philip feast of Haż-
Żebbuġ, to a scurrilous chant against
the Nationalist Party.
In a Facebook post, Puli took umbrage
at a video showing Farrugia enjoying
herself inside the band club, while the
crowd appears to be chanting 'F'għoxx
il-PN' (fuck the PN) to the tune of Gigi
d'Agostino's L'Amours Toujours.
While it is unclear if Farrugia herself
is singing to the same chant, the mobile
phone footage shows Farrugia held aloft
by festa revellers inside the St Philip's
band club while the chant is taking place.
PN secretary-general Clyde Puli used
the video to take Farrugia
to task on Facebook.
