17 COMMERCIAL maltatoday | WEDNESDAY • 3 JULY 2019 The Ronald McDonald House Chari- ties Malta (RHMC Malta) has officially inaugurated its Learning Centre in Qawra. The Learning Centre will host a range of services and programmes for chil- dren and teens with learning or social challenges, and their families. Work- ing closely with several NGOs, such as ADHD Malta and the Autism Parents Association (APA) Malta, the RMHC Learning Centre will work to safeguard the well-being of vulnerable children or those in need of educational sup- port. The 360-square metre centre fea- tures training rooms and activity areas, including a fully equipped teaching kitchen. The centre was inaugurat- ed by Martin Xuereb, RMHC Malta Chairman. "We are delighted to open the doors to RMHC Malta's first project," Mr Xuereb said. "With the support of nu- merous benefactors from a range of sectors in Malta and overseas, and of course McDonald's and its customers, considerable investment has been di- rected to developing this purpose-built facility, equipped with innovative re- sources and equipment. It has been de- signed to provide a safe, learning and therapeutic environment for children. We now look forward to welcoming our first young clients with our friends at ADHD and APA." Three programmes will be offered at the RMHC Learning Centre from July. 'Social Smarts for children with ADHD' is a 15-hour programme for children with Attention Deficit Hyper- active Disorder, designed to provide them with strategies for improved be- haviour in social interaction. The pro- gramme also involves the children's parents and supports them to manage the symptoms of ADHD. 'Parent Training Course for Raising Kids with ADHD' provides parents or carers with support to strengthen skills and strategies for parenting a child with ADHD. Parenting support covers a range of issues including behavioural strategies, understanding how ADHD affects child development, and prob- lem-solving skills. A third programme, 'Social Integra- tion Programme for Teens' is aimed at school-leavers with autism and seeks to address the challenges they face in social interaction. RMHC Malta is part of the Ronald McDonald House Charities global net- work which delivers programmes and services in more than 64 countries and regions, benefitting the lives of more than 5.5 million children and their families around the world every year. Around the world, the Ronald Mc- Donald House Charities has enjoyed the support of the McDonald's system – owners, operators, suppliers, em- ployees and customers – since it was established in 1974. RMHC Malta's leading benefactor is Premier Restau- rants Malta, the operator of nine Mc- Donald's restaurants in the Maltese Islands. Donations can be made at RMHC Malta boxes at McDonald's. The Delicata winery has always recognised that being responsi- ble for good works is part of con- ducting good business. But, as the supercentenarian winery's suc- cess increases, the Delicata family deems the time right to increase its social impact by looking at community support and sustain- ability in a brand new light. With the benevolent Delicata for Good project, the winery is committing to a more proactive way of patronage, still inspired by integrity and core family values, but directed towards heightening awareness and donating funds for one truly good cause at a time. From food or shelter relief to research scholarships or envi- ronmental rehabilitation, water conservation, the fight against il- literacy, disease prevention and increasing pet adoptions, just to name a few in an evolving society, the areas in which one can assist are endless. For an organisation to make it on to the Delicata for Good list, it needs to be transparently managed and fighting for a just cause that is evidence-backed and relevant. The first beneficiary of Delicata for Good is Nature Trust Malta, a non-profit non-governmental environmental organisation and a privileged partner of World Wild- life Fund (WWF). Nature Trust Malta carries out many laudable projects to con- serve the Maltese natural heritage and is in constant need of back- ing to save species such as the sea turtle, one of the most endangered animals in the world. The Delicata winery is funding the cost of a high-tech tracking device that will get placed on the back of a rescued sea turtle. The turtle will be returned safely to the wild once fully rehabilitated. The device will allow Nature Trust Malta to gain invaluable informa- tion about sea turtle migration. The turtle's journey can then be followed on the Delicata Facebook page www.facebook.com/Delicat- aWinery/ It is envisaged that this will raise public awareness in an effective and enjoyable manner.
