11.07.19 6 NEWS THE US Embassy in Malta and the Euro Media Forum are organising "e Apol- lo 11 – 50th Anniversary of the first man on the moon" on Saturday 20 July at Palazzo de Piro in Mdina. 50 years on, the immortal words "one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" and "e Eagle has landed" still ignite excitement. On 20 July 1969 the world held its breath as Neil Armstrong opened the hatch of the Eagle landing craft and made those first historic steps on the Moon surface. e Apollo Mission pro- ject was a shining example of what can be achieved when humanity works to- wards a common goal. e evening will commence with an introductory speech by Chargé d'Affair- es for the US embassy in Malta, Mark A. Schapiro, followed by an informative presentation by Apollo Missions Spe- cialist, David Pace. e presentation will touch upon the scientific importance of the actual moon-landing and the benefits derived therefrom. Pace will explain how the moon landing event itself brought phys- ical evidence to the scientific world and increased our knowledge of the moon. is achievement set us where we stand today, our return to the moon in 2024 with the Artemis project and the more ambitious project to land on Mars. Pace will delve into the scientific facts that evidently debunk the words of con- spiratorial theorists who believe that man never went to the moon and that the whole event was a giant Hollywood- style hoax. e audience will be able to visit an Apollo 11 exhibition to be set by Ales- sandro Bajada. ey will also be able to participate in a professionally guided moon observation with a professional telescope. Participants can take their own telescopes and binoculars to make their own observations. e Palazzo de Piro hall is fully air conditioned. Doors open at 7.30pm. Based in Rome, the associ- ation's objective is the rep- resentation of over 100 com- panies in the sector at both national and international level. e previous Assogasliqui- di president, Dr Francesco Franchi, has decided to leave the position in advance due to his new corporate commit- ments. erefore, as from this month, Dr Arzà, who occu- pied the post of Vice President of Assogasliquidi, has taken over as interim president, in accordance with the provi- sions of the association's stat- ute.
