17 COMMERCIAL maltatoday | WEDNESDAY • 17 JULY 2019 A photographic exhibition on the archi- tecture of Romania was hosted within the Faculty for the Built Environment of the University of Malta to serve as a showcase to architecture students. The exhibition was inaugurated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Carmelo Abela in the presence of the Rector of the University Prof. Alfred Vella. The Honorary Consul of Romania in Malta, Cristina Farrugia, the Ambassador of Malta to Romania and a resident aca- demic at the Faculty for the Built Envi- ronment Lino Bianco, were all present. This travelling exhibition on the archi- tecture of Romania, which marks a cen- tury since the establishment of Greater Romania (1918-2018), included Malta in its itinerary. It is coordinated by the Cultural As- sociation ARCATECH and financed by the Bucharest City Hall and the Popular University "Ioan I. Dalles". It is curated by the Prof. Augustin Ioan, the Vice- Rector and Head of Doctoral Studies of "Ion Mincu" University of Architecture and Urbanism, Bucharest, and Prof. Marius Marcu-Lapadat, Dean of the Faculty of Interior Architecture at the same university. Included in this photographic ex- hibition are some of the relevant na- tion-building processes that local ar- chitecture encompassed until WWII (1918-1945), during the Communist Era (1948-1989) and the transitional period to-date (1990-2018). It is accompanied by a 40-page full- colour catalogue with historical de- scriptions of the context in which this architecture of the respective periods flourished. A century of architecture in Romania WORKS by members of the Malta Society of Arts in a se- quel exhibition to last year's successful 'Perception', which will expand on the theme of perception through multisen- sorial art The Malta Society of Arts is organising its members' exhibition titled 'Perception: postscripts' - a continuation of the work which was start- ed last year inspired by the theme of multi-sensoriality as established by the interna- tional project AMuSE. This year's show will feature participants who showcased their research and artwork in last year's members' exhibie- ments as an artistic sequel. Furthermore, this year's event will also include nu- merous other artists who will join this collective for the very first time. Assimilating from the main concept of the international project, the participants' art- works are linked to the idea of perception, exploring dif- ferent layers of connotations which such a concept might allude to. The exhibition will also unfold sub-themes, most of them rooted in our local con- text through experimental or multi-sensorial work under the guidance of the show's artistic director Roderick Camilleri. The number of participants has gone up from last year's 33 and will now showcase the work of over 50 different members of the MSA who have all been attending work- shops with Roderick Camill- eri since the beginning of this year. The final works will include a variety of artworks such as interactive innovative instal- lations, photography, paint- ings, sculptures, etchings and kinetic sculptures amongst others. This show forms part of a series of events of the inter- national art project AMuSE (Artistic Multi Sensorial Ex- periences), which falls within the Creative Europe pro- gramme co-financed by the European Commission. The project has been led by the Malta Society of Arts in collaboration with partner countries from all over Eu- rope. This is the first art consorti- um led by a Maltese organisa- tion involving four European partners under the Creative Europe label. Perception: postscripts will be launched on 1 August at the Art Galleries of Palazzo de La Salle, Malta Society of Arts, Valletta and will remain open until 31 August. En- trance is free. More than 50 artists in exhibition at MSA
