18.07.19 16 TOWNSCAPES A group of 26 students from the Faculty of the Built Environment attended the second edition of Archivisit - a week long hands- on experience programme in London which exposes students to best practices in the interna- tional construction industry. is year's edition was spon- sored by the Planning Author- ity. e brainchild of visiting university lecturer Perit Mark Borg, Archivisit provides stu- dents reading a Bachelor and Masters degree in Architecture and Civil Engineering, with an intensive programme which combines experience-based knowledge with relevant, ex- pert advice on architectural design, structural engineering, green infrastructure, facade engineering and project man- agement. Perit Vincent Cassar, Planning Board Chairperson at the Plan- ning Authority, commended this initiative. "e Planning Authority full endorses and supports educa- tional programmes which can propel the next generation of ar- chitects into working towards a culture of excellence in the Built Environment Industry," he said. "Such a knowledge-sharing programme can at times im- pact and achieve much more than the 'traditional' education- al system that our students are exposed to." is year, students were host- ed by a number of reputable international firms namely Fos- ter & Partners, Arup, Wintech, MAKE, Malta Business Net- work, SOM, Robert Bird Group, Buro Happold, RISE Manage- ment and the Bartlett School of Architecture. Most of the visits were led by Maltese architects or structur- al engineers who are currently working in London. Mark Borg, founder of Archi- vist said tht this international student experience programme exposes students to the best practices in design and project management, new technolo- gies, site processes/procedures and green infrastructure tech- niques. "It offers a hands-on experi- ence, with design workshops, technical presentations and construction site visits through the involvement of reputable in- ternational firms," he said. e Planning Authority will be working closely with Archi- vist to strengthen the collabora- tion and benefits of such a pro- gramme for the future.
