YANNICK PACE FOREIGN Affairs Minister Car- melo Abela is due to testify in court today in a hearing on a pro- hibitory injunction filed by Darren Debono against the government in relation to its attempt to have the UN impose sanctions against the alleged fuel smuggler. Darren Debono, together with his associate Gordon Debono (no relation), are believed to have been part of multi-million Euro smug- gling network operating in the Mediterranean. "Tomorrow I must testify in court because I have been summoned to testify in another case which still needs to be decided," Abela told MaltaToday, when asked to com- ment on reports yesterday that the Maltese government would no longer be pursuing sanctions. He said that he would have the opportunity to comment on what had already been published once he has testified today. The boats were on their trailers occupying the small sandy beach close to the Birżebbuġa regatta club. The enforcement action took place on Monday morn- ing and the boat owners can retrieve the vessels from the authority after paying for the removal and daily storage expenses, a spokesperson for TM said.
