A Turkish shipping giant whose
companies are mostly tax-resident
in Malta has been accused of having
violated US sanctions on Iran, with
two vessels which were at one point
Malta-flagged.
According to the Turkish maritime
news agency Deniz Haber, docu-
ments it published show evidence
of violations of U.S. sanctions by
two vessels believed to belong to the
Turkish-owned Palmali Shipping.
e U.S. Treasury's Office of Foreign
Assets Control (OFAC) launched an
investigation into Palmali Shipping
for violating the U.S. embargo against
Iran and Syria back in May.

THE suspected fuel smuggler Darren Debono,
currently facing charges in an Italian court in
Catania, has claimed in court that officials
from the United States embassy asked him
for information about Prime Minister Joseph
Muscat and his chief of staff Keith Schembri,
in exchange for lifting US sanctions on him.
The Agdash left Bandar Abbas on
Iran's Gulf coast in March before
heading to the port of Fujairah in the
United Arab Emirates
