13 maltatoday | WEDNESDAY • 21 AUGUST 2019 CULTURE THE 17th edition of the Gozitan Deli- cata Classic Wine Festival organised in collaboration with Nadur Local Council in on this weekend. The festival is expected to attract thousands of wine lovers over its three- day period from Friday 23 to Sunday 25 August, each night between 7 pm and midnight. Gozo's biggest wine fest is held in Na- dur's scenic garden Ġnien il-Kunsill with spectacular panoramic country and sea views of the valley leading down to Mġarr harbour taking in the islands of Comino and Malta. Entrance is free but to enjoy the wines one needs to purchase a souvenir glass and a purse of 24 wine coins for € 16. The correct change of wine coins is ex- changeable for a standard 150 ml pour of a wide range of Maltese and Gozitan quality wines crafted by Malta's award- winning winery Emmanuel Delicata. Festival revellers can try wines made from various grape varieties such as Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet, Grenache, Chardonnay, Vermentino, Zibibbo, Vi- ognier and of course the two ultra-rare indigenous Maltese grapes Ġellewża and Girgentina. In all there will be over 20 wines to sample. Vintages of nine Delicata award-winning brands are served from as many stalls spread along the garden's periphery. There's a great entertainment bill every night. Live cooking stalls will be serving a tempting variety of both tradi- tional Maltese and international dishes to tease a wide range of palates. You can get there with ease from Mal- ta using the regular Gozo Channel ferry service. If you don't wish to come by car, the special shuttle service laid on to commute to and fro the festival is a very practical option. This follows the invitation of Riga's Blagovest Chamber Or- thodox Choir, one of the top Lat- vian choirs which the Gaulitanus Choir hosted in Gozo during the last edition of Gaulitana: A Festi- val of Music. The full programme is being fully co-ordinated by Blagovest and the Sing Latvia organisation, while the concert tour is sup- ported by the Project Support Grant, Malta Arts Fund – Arts Council Malta. For this concert tour, the choir's repertoire will essentially consist of a mixture of Maltese secular and sacred music, including var- ious compositions by the Gauli- tanus Choir's founder-director Colin Attard, who will also be directing the choir in Latvia. The Gozitan choir will open its artistic events with an afternoon concert at the wonderful Nation- al Botanic Garden of Latvia in Salaspils, just south-east of the Latvian capital. The concert is being held in collaboration with the Elpa choir. The second commitment will be in Kuldīga, indeed an early evening concert in St. Catherine Church. The choir will end its commit- ments with a grand concert at Riga's iconic St Peter's Church in the very heart of the old town, in collaboration with the Asso- ciation of Culture Institutions of Riga City Council. Very signifi- cantly, the Blagovest Chamber Orthodox Choir will be joining the Gozitan choir for the second half of the concert. Gaulitanus Choir for Latvia concert tour
